Since 1997, Imani Winds has been expanding the bounds of traditional wind quintet. The ensemble has established a distinct presence in the classical music scene and indeed in the contemporary music and jazz worlds as well. The name Imani, which means “faith” in Swahili, embodies the spirit of the ensemble – which is evident in their dynamic playing, critically acclaimed recordings, innovative programming, and outreach programs. Imani Winds constantly challenge the notion of what a wind quintet is. This concert celebrating African-American composers, is presented free of charge in partnership with Shriver Hall Concert Series.

The band entered the music industry in early '99s touring with Fear Factory. The band caught many people's attention and some even say they outplayed Fear Factory. Their debut album, Wisconsin Death Trip, has gone gold. Easily recognized by singer Wayne Static's treasure troll hair, the band is certainly one to watch in the next few years. Static-X, a band with a rockin' sound and a solid fan-base. Keep Disco Evil!

Hailing from Vermont, the band's roots rock, funky blues and soul-charged repertoire explodes with melodic crescendos, gentle lyricism and fiery youthful intensity. The Nocturnals' driving sound and Potter's exquisite, soaring voice have already earned comparisons to Norah Jones, Bonnie Raitt, Janis Joplin and The Band.

Patty Larkin is a Cape Cod-based performer, once reviewed as having a 'Bonnie Raitt influence,' but she's much more than that. Her passionate, rhythmic, sometimes quirky, songs showcase her virtuosic guitar work, distinct vocals and her tendency to explore different musical frontiers.
