Here’s a great activity for city dwellers looking for something new to help while away their lunch break... On Wednesday, May 30th, The Glenlivet City Links - an indoor, urban-scaled, nine-hole golf course fashioned in the likeness of traditional Scottish greens - will open in Philadelphia. Created by famed golf course designer Arne Lundmark, this urban-scaled course is comprised of nine challenging holes sloped with water hazards, bridges and sand traps. Proportioned to fit in a 10,000 square foot office space at The Armory, the course provides an excellent opportunity for avid golfers to sneak in a quick round during their lunch hour, all the while helping to raise funds for the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition. This is a fun, visual story, and we can provide interviews with The Glenlivet's Brand Director, who will be decked out in full Scottish Highland regalia. If you are interested in sending someone to check it out, we would love to outfit him or her in a kilt to really give him or her a true Scottish golfing experience. When: Grand Opening: May 30, 2007 Tee time for media preview: 9:00 a.m. Regular Hours: 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Open May 30-June 1; June 5-8. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 14, 2008 CONTACT Casey Rae-Hunter Communications Director Future of Music Coalition www.futureofmusic.org casey@futureofmusic.org p: 202-822-2051 c: 301-642-6210 PHILLY BANDS ROCK FOR NET NEUTRALITY “Sugar Town” at Tritone Club presents a night of lady rockers and DJs Philadelphia, PA – On Saturday, February 23, a bevy of woman-centric bands and DJs will play South Street music hub Tritone. Part of a series of monthly events showcasing female musicians, the show is also in support of “Rock the Net” — Future of Music Coalition’s ongoing campaign for net neutrality. Appearing at the “Sugar Town” concert are Beretta 76, Victor Victor Band, KeN, Surgeon and DJ Chatty Cathy. The Internet is an increasingly powerful tool for musicians. The current structure of the web lets the biggest record labels and smallest bedroom recording artists exist on a more or less equal technological playing field. But some telecoms would like to charge content providers a fee for the faster loading of their sites. Those who couldn’t afford to — or didn’t want to — pay a toll would be relegated the slow lane. Net neutrality preserves everyone’s access to the varied, exciting and legal musical offerings online. When: Saturday, February 23 at 9 PM Where: Tritone, 1508 South St. Philadelphia, PA Admission: $7. 21+. About the bands: Beretta 76 is a hard-rocking act that has drawn comparisons to the Pretenders, Cheap Trick and the Ramones. Proud natives of South Philly, they embrace the rough ’n’ tumble sounds of early punk, but with strong pop hooks. Victor Victor Band is a two-piece, guy-girl garage-flavored band that “recalls a more sinister White Stripes,” according to Philadelphia Weekly’s Doug Wallen. Philly five-piece KeN has been kicking up garage-rawk dirt for more than a decade. This lady-powered band has a raw natural desire to kick some rock and roll ass. Influenced by waning moons, booze, the concept that music is math and the urban Philadelphia shadows, KeN has been described as an “estro-gin power collective” by PW scribe Joey Sweeney. Surgeon (formerly Bumrunner) features the twitchy guitar of Lydia Giordano. The trio mixes the heavy paranoia of Black Sabbath with more modern influences like Tool and Arcade Fire. DJ Chatty Cathy is an ambitious slacker, pop-culture freak, karaoke diva, saucy cowgirl, amateur photographer and mistress of air guitar. She’s also a DJ at various locations around Philadelphia. About Rock the Net: Rock the Net was established to increase musician awareness about the importance of net neutrality. Since its launch, over 750 bands and 155 independent labels have joined the campaign. More information can be found at http://www.futureofmusic.org/rockthenet/ and http://www.myspace.com/futureofmusiccoalition.
