March 6 . 7PM and 8:30PM March 7 . 7PM and 8:30PM Place(d) Choreography by MFA candidate Ryan Chrisman with live original music by Justin Bland Lee Hinkle Kyle Johnson Enter an environment where dancers and musicians unite in movement and sound, and where, above all, place is an indicator for creation. Located outside the dance department in the dance courtyard, Place(d) is a site-specific work that investigates the interplay between what currently exists in the natural space and what is not there every day. The audience is encouraged to move around the perimeter of the space to view the work from varied perspectives. Following each performance, a short film based on the process behind Place(d) will be shown in Studio 1912. This performance takes place in the Dance Courtyard of the Dance Department. Space is limited. Seating is available for mobility impaired patrons. Tickets $20

How Long, Brethren? and other repertoire Culminating her residency with the UM Department of Dance, guest choreographer Dianne McIntyre revives and restages Helen Tamiris's historic How Long, Brethren? (1937), with student dancers. Tamiris, principal choreographer for the WPA Federal Theatre Project from 1937-39, often reflected social and political issues in her works, including the African-American experience as depicted through the despair of Southern Blacks in Brethren, underscored by Lawrence Gellert's Negro Songs of Protest, sung by chorus.
