Arturo Sandoval Mambo Mania Big Band

Where: Dimitriou's Jazz Alley

Date: 2008-02-21 20:00:00

The Pacific Jazz Institute at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley presents multi Grammy-winning trumpeter Arturo Sandoval with his Mambo Mania Big Band for four nights. Band members are TBA. Set times Thursday through Saturday are at 7:30pm and 9:30pm and set time on Sunday is at 7:30pm. Doors will open at 6pm on Thursday and 5:30pm Friday – Sunday. Arturo Sandoval is the king of Latin jazz and one of the world’s most dynamic performers. The Cuban trumpet virtuoso has won four Grammy Awards, six Billboard Awards and an Emmy Award. Sandoval celebrates his Latin side on his latest release Rumba Palace. A founding member of the band Irakere, Sandoval later worked with Dizzy Gillespie. After defecting to the United States in 1990, his dramatic life story was made into a movie. On May 22, 2007, Telarc released Sandoval’s 28th recording, Rumba Palace and a short six months later Sandoval was awarded a Latin Grammy in the category of Best Latin Jazz Album by the Latin Recording Academy for the release. Mr. Sandoval’s passion for music is evident in his amazing range – he’s known for his versatile mix of jazz, classical, rock and traditional Cuban music. Rhumba Palace, featuring Sandoval’s Mambo Mania Big Band, pays tribute to the 1950’s Mambo dance craze created by Perez Prado and Tito Puente. Get ready to be blown away by Sandoval, his band and outstanding musicians. This celebration of Latin sound is unlike anything you’ve ever heard. In April 2006, he opened the Arturo Sandoval Jazz Club in Miami Beach, Florida. The venue features both world class jazz acts as well as local talent, and Sandoval himself plays at the club. In February 2007, he opened a second club, Rumba Palace, in nearby South Beach.
