David Bazan

Where: 7th Street Entry

Date: 2007-09-04 20:00:00

Type:

David Bazan fronts the enigmatic rock band Pedro the Lion and the electronic-based Headphones. His emotionally charged narratives, eye for telling detail, and mournful voice have more in common with J.D. Salinger's "Nine Stories" or Flannery O'Connor's "Wise Blood" than with the usual lyrical slant of popular music. Bazan is a gifted storyteller, weaving parables of spiritual conflict, suburban ennui, and personal surrender into magnetic, well-crafted songs. Pedro The Lion's most recent album, 'Achilles Heel' topped the college radio charts. Headphones' self-titled debut was released in May 2006. Casiotone for the Painfully Alone is the musical solo-project of musician Owen Ashworth of San Francisco, California. His music is created with solely battery-operated keyboards and other electronic musical instruments and has toured with other similar acclaimed indie artists like Cass McCombs, Kill Me Tomorrow, Jumbling Towers, The Rapture and Xiu Xiu.

Comedian David Graham

Where: Joke Joint Comedy Club

Date: 2008-01-26 19:30:00

Type:

Tickets: $12 David Graham's comedy career has been a non-stop series of events. His very first time on stage, he unknowingly entered a comedy competition (which he won). That led to Catch a Rising Star calling him to open for comedy George Wallace. His twelve-minute set attracted local radio and television attention and the buzz that followed earned him a permanent emcee Job at "Catch". It forced him to grow, opening for acts such as Chris Rock, Adam Sandier, David Spade, Jimmy Walker, Sinbad and a host of others. Opening for high-profile comics helped get him noticed by national television. He has since been seen on Comedy Central's "Comic Justice" and featured on ABC's "America's Funniest People". Those appearances helped him move up to the big screen in independent films such as "Apocalypse and the Beauty Queen" and "Tapestry of Shadows". Now, he's a nationally-touring headlining comedian, and the ride has taken him to the Joke Joint. Be sure to catch him while you can, because you never know where comedy is going to take him next.

Holly Cole

Where: Dakota Bar & Grill

Date: 2008-03-13 00:00:00

Type:

Canadian vocalist Holly Cole isn't one of those artists who falls into any one category. "Her smoky voice is sultry, yet she's ironically humorous and candid while reshaping traditional standards and pop classics. Jazz is her bedrock, but not exclusively (AMG)." The Juno award winner and Grammy nominee celebrates the release of her new self-titled album.
