The songs of Tom Brosseau, a North Dakota native, touch on, in Brosseau's words, "abandoned buildings, new love, the praireland, being haunted, roaming around, and being thrilled and killed." It is the work of a master storyteller, who draws from such diverse influences as Marty Robbins, Led Zeppelin, Nick Drake, and Billie Holiday.

Should you make that big move? Is it time to dump your boyfriend? Demand a raise? Run for office? ASK THE ORACLE - All your questions answered in song! Back by popular demand, Boston-based band Jim’s Big Ego (www.bigego.com) re-teams with writer/actor/musician and radio mystic, Andras Jones for the return of an original interactive theater production entitled The Ego & The Oracle - an evening of rock and roll divination. Part experimental theater, part rock and roll cabaret, part mystic mind-expansion, The Ego & The Oracle is a live stage spectacular where “Magic 8 Ball meets iPod Shuffle”. The premise is as simple as it is unique. Audience members are invited on stage to ask questions of The Oracle. They then spin a wheel containing Jim’s Big Ego’s songs. When the wheel stops, the band spontaneously performs the chosen song, which in turn is interpreted as the answer to the question. The outcome can be humorous or moving, often both at once. It is a show about synchronicity and it’s hard to experience it without getting the sense that the universe is not only in tune, but that it also has a great sense of rhythm. The Ego & The Oracle returns to Jimmy Tingle's Off Broadway Theater for a limited run that starts the weekend of April 27, 28, 29, and continues every Sunday through June 17. Tolstoy, War and Peace (2nd session) This group reads primarily from anthologies that emphasize ancient and modern classics of literature, drama, philosophy, and social thought. Some of these anthologies are published by the Great Books Foundation; two Norton anthologies have also been used, and two short-story collections. In recent years the group has read selections from Genesis, Sophocles, Petronius, Chekhov, Hugo, Heine, Chopin, Wharton, and DeLillo; these may run from 20 to more than 100 pages. Additional books, chosen by the group, tend to be more contemporary. Those read in the last three years include Saramago's Blindness, Feynman's Six Easy Pieces, Faulkner's Absalom!, Absalom!, Eliot's The Waste Land, Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov and Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil. A Shakespeare play is read every year. There are only two requirements of participants: read the scheduled work and participate in the discussion. These requirements are waived for those attending their first meeting. Preregistration is not required but is encouraged, since the library will provide, in advance and at no charge, a copy of the reading for anyone planning to attend. Contact: Hugh Crane, group leader (hcrane@cambridgema.gov), or Martha Hamilton. (617-349-4044).

Formed in rural Connecticut and starting out as a manic-paced skacore band, the group has since transformed into a much more experimental outfit that uses a framework of modern hardcore/metal to bring in such diverse influences as jazz, grind, ska, reggae, punk and anything else they can think of.
