Klaxons

Where: Paradise

Date: 2007-09-23 19:00:00

Type:

Klaxons hail from Iceland, home of Bjork and Sigur Ros among other bands. In thrall to all that is brightest and best, highest and indeed lowest and most primal in British youth culture, Klaxons see no distinction between celebrating their love of the madness and melodies, the ecstasy and euphoria of early 90s hardcore rave with making some of the brightest, sharpest guitar music around today. The band describe their sound as Josef K-meets-Baby D with a twinkle in their eye, surely the first to mention those names in the same sentence. "We are about fusing the things we listen to constantly," says bassist Jamie Reynolds. "It's about accessible pop music. We're trying to take it back by wanting to make a brilliantly overblown pop record!" They're touring behind their debut album, 'Myths of the Near Future.' The Mystery Jets not only feature a father and son in the band and cite King Crimson and Syd Barrett as influences, but hail from that legendary bastion of bohemia on the Thames, Eel Pie Island -- a place that gave birth to the musical careers of The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd among others.

It is “completely cohesive and as comforting and deja-vu dreamy as the wallpaper from your childhood bedroom” (Independent on Sunday). His solo work is an outlet for his mellower, more acoustic tunes than those he writes with SFA. Ulrich Schnauss has been making music under various guises his whole life, taking influences from all kinds of places, including the indie world of Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine) and Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins). Ulrich has been asked to work with and remix artists including Mojave 3, Longview and The Zephyrs.
