Carla Hassett Brings Brazilian Pop to The Elbo Room on Tuesday, January 30th at 8:30PM and 10:30PM On her new album, Quero Saber - which was released on January 30, 2007 - Carla dives deeper into her Brazilian roots, exploring bossa nova and the rhythms of Bahia as the foundation for her hooky, electronic pop. Her self-produced music has been compared to Bebel Gilberto as well as Beck, but her gifted voice demonstrates a vocal passion more along the lines of a young Aretha Franklin with hints of Sade. In her energetic live performances, Carla reveals her innate ability to create and set different moods –weaving traditional Brazilian sounds with American pop- making for remarkable rhythmic versatility throughout. She has toured and recorded with popular acts Billy Idol, Gino Vannelli, Michael Buble (David Foster), Jon Anderson (Yes), Thomas Dolby, Mark Snow (X-Files, who won an Emmy nod on a track sung by Carla) as well as Latin legends Sergio Mendez, Mexico’s Christian Castro, and Brazil’s Marcelo Augusto. Carla is also the featured vocalist in the highly anticipated Robert Towne (Chinatown, Tequila Sunrise) feature film, Ask The Dust, composed by Ramin Djawadi and Brazilian composer Heitor Pereira. In addition to recording, Carla teaches at Flea’s (Red Hot Chili Peppers) School of Music in Silverlake. http://www.carlahassett.com http://www.myspace.com/carlahassett

WHAT: The fourth Luna Philosophie will aim to explore the issues and concerns that have arisen recently regarding Space traffic. we will also explore how they are reflective of the concerns that we face here on Earht and the correlation between the two. As suggested by attendees from the first Luna Philosophie, we will first begin with a short (~20 minute) presentation to set the tone for the subsequent discussion. Space Traffic Management Civil, military and commercial satellites from all nations alike face an increasing problem from the overcrowding of certain orbits by satellites and debris. Measures will need to be devised on how to manage space traffic if we are to minimize the risk of physical collisions and radio interference and thus maximize the ability of actors to use space freely. This area is at a complex interplay of technical and engineering problems, political tensions, space law, and important security implications for many nations. It affects all space activity, civil, military and commercial and from all nations. This Team Project will develop a system of space traffic management, including its technical and legal aspects, that will continue to allow freedom of use of space without interference in the age where there are more spacecraft and more space actors.. SDForum Marketing SIG Topic: A major sea change is occurring in the development and deployment of software Developing the best technology is no longer enough to differentiate your company from the others. At Software 2007, Executives from the largest companies agreed that the playing field has officially changed. And, that they need to do more to understand the "Business Users" and build the Ecosystems to serve them. According to Chris Dowse, CEO of NeoChange, "there is an estimated 15% effective usage of enterprise software." Business people are the new decision makers and their organizations have the funding for projects strategic to the success of the business. They are driving technology investments today. These "Business Users" are motivated by solutions to their business problems, not by the technology. And, they are placing increasing pressure on IT to provide solutions to their business needs. The good news is now that the infrastructure is in place, there are more opportunities than ever before. What does this mean to the software marketer? Who are the customers of today and what do they want? What do you develop and to whom do you sell it? Speakers: Anil Saboo is Director Platform Products with Oracle Corporation. At Oracle, he leads a team of product marketing and business development managers. Roberta Moore is CEO of QM Corp. She specializes in best practices to increase adoption of new technologies. Free to SDForum Members; $15.00 for Non-Members.
