MURDERING MARLOWE BY CHARLES MAROWITZ THE CHICAGO-AREA PREMIERE! At the Elgin Art Showcase: May 18 - June 10, 2007 Murdering Marlowe is a thriller that takes the story of Elizabethan playwright Christopher Marlowe and turns it on its head. According to legend, Marlowe was murdered in a tavern brawl over the bill. But in this new version, William Shakespeare is the one who plots the crime. Real historical figures are represented in the play, but the facts have been reworked into a wonderful fiction, or so we think. After 400 years, no one really knows who killed Marlowe. One thing is for sure, Shakespeare’s star began to rise after his death. The play features Charlie Rucker (South Elgin), Jeff Dolecek (Chicago), Erin Spears (Rockford), Steve Macarus (Elgin), Clarissa Yearman (Elgin), Tony Aiello (Elgin), Greg Peters (Elgin) and Benjamin Fletcher (Elgin).
