Restoring the Republic: Foreign Policy and Civil Liberties

Where: Hyatt Regency Reston

Date: 2007-06-01 20:00:00

Type:

The Future of Freedom Foundation is holding one of the most important conferences in the history of the libertarian movement, “Restoring the Republic: Foreign Policy and Civil Liberties.” June 1–4, 2007, from Friday morning through Monday noon, we will be addressing the two most burning issues of our time — foreign policy and civil liberties. This landmark conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Reston in Reston, Virginia. Reston is one of the nicest areas of northern Virginia and, in fact, was recently named one of the Top 100 Best Places to Live by Money magazine. For the past several decades, U.S. foreign policy has included support of dictatorial regimes, brutal sanctions and embargoes, invasions and occupations, terrorist “blowback” against the United States, severe assaults on civil liberties and the Bill of Rights, suspension of habeas corpus, torture and “rendition” of detainees, indefinite detentions, and kangaroo military tribunals. With the ever-growing debacle in Iraq, there has never been a better time to come together to share ideas on restoring the limited-government, constitutional republic envisioned by our Founding Fathers. It is to that end that we are hosting this exciting and important conference. When you review our list of 24 speakers — libertarians, liberals, and conservatives — you will see that this is going to be one fantastic intellectual experience you are not going to want to miss. Not only will you have the opportunity to listen to speeches by some of the greatest speakers on foreign policy and civil liberties, you will also have the opportunity to mingle with them as well as with conference participants from all over the country who share the same passion and commitment concerning foreign policy and civil liberties.

Sparky's Espresso Café proudly presents The Most Important Places by DECOY, opening Wednesday, April 18th 2007 from 6-8:30pm.Sparky's Espresso café, known for its intimate café environment, is rapidly becoming a hotspot for local artists. For at least the past year, an assortment of edgy, underground and experimental artists have graced Sparky's walls. Last summer, DECOY, a female DC street artist filled Sparky's to capacity, during her opening exhibition. Sparky's is excited to welcome back DECOY, on Wednesday, April 18th. The show will feature 6 new paintings by the artist, whose two-headed characters adorn the U street corridor and appear on the cover of The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears, by Dinaw Mengestu, a fictional story about Logan Circle. DECOY originated as a conceptual project by the artist in the form of t-shirts that were screened with the randomly selected word "Decoy", postured as a nonexistent clothing label. The name stuck and developed into its own entity, fusing into the representation of the artist's various creative endeavors, which include contributing to Mark Jenkins' blog about local street art, Pretty City; creating promotional artwork for Catalyst Theater and composing the CD art for local musician, Andy Matchett's solo project, Three for Three. As part of Sparky's monthly rotation of emerging underground artists, The Most Important Places will feature 6 new original paintings by Decoy through the middle of May. The opening reception on April 18th from 6-8:30pm, will include limited edition t-shirts, ties and paintings for sale as well as DJ Beat Tactics, spinning soul and street sounds. Sparky's staff will serve their usual delicious coffee, beer and wine.DECOYSparky's Cafe Beat Tactics please repost!
