Inspired by the true story of the "Hiroshima Maidens," playwright Velina Hasu Houston's newest play explores mankind's ability to heal and build a better world. Two Japanese sisters, victims of the atom bomb, travel to New York for reconstructive surgery. There they discover that the lead American plastic surgeon also suffered a critical loss during the war, and the resistance of former enemies collides with the humanity of the Hiroshima Maidens Project. Presiding over all is a statue of the Greek goddess Aphrodite, the embodiment of maternal love through the ages that illuminates the possibility of peace. Performances take place Thursday, Friday, Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 2 pm, August 31 through September 23.
