The Heavenly States Album Release Party

Where: The Independent

The Heavenly States Album Release Party with support from Citay - http://www.myspace.com/citay07 The Botticellis - http://www.myspace.com/thebotticellis Another Planet Entertainment with support from Gen Art, invite you to The Heavenly States Album Release Party at The Independent. The evening's supporting acts include Citay and The Botticellis. The Heavenly States, who recently co-headlined last November's multi-media event, Ignition! has entered the studio and have emerged with a new LP entitled, Delayer. The Heavenly States are Ted Nesseth, Jeremy Gagon, Genevieve Gagon and Masanori Mark Christianson. The band has toured the US, Australia, the UK, Egypt and were the first rock band to play Libya. Libyan-American producer, Jawal Nga (Chasing Daylight, Underdog, The Clearing, Forty Shades of Blue) is currently writing a screen play based on the band's tour in Libya. For Delayer, The Heavenly States have decided to use their collective studio experience to produce the record themselves, unlike their earlier albums, which were produced by such big names as Jeff Saltzman (The Killers, Two Gallants), Paul Oldham (Will Oldham's older brother and main producer), and John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., The Hold Steady). Delayer is thick with sonic layers and, as Rolling Stone says of their prior album, "delivers equal parts patchouli-soaked violin and Superchunk-worthy melodies." Look for Delayer to hit stores in February. GREAT GIRLS BLOUSE http://www.myspace.com/greatgirlsblousemusic Great Girls Blouse is husband and wife team Amy and Jason Chorney. Amy grew up in a musical household: her father a college choral director, her mother an operatic vocal coach and her brother an accomplished drummer in New York City. Amy began playing piano, then moved to violin, playing in jazz ensembles and Irish bands and finally to singer-songwriter-guitarist. She met Jason at the University of Rhode Island (both were working on their respective Philosophy degrees) where the two began their musical relationship, eventually taking them to Liverpool, England, where they came across the local adage, “big girl’s blouse,” an insult meaning “sissy.” This phrase stuck in their minds and was later altered into “great girl’s blouse,” becoming the name of their future musical venture. GGB’s 14-year musical history includes: gigs and tours up and down both Coasts and throughout the Midwest, nationwide college radio rotation, performances at festivals, benefits, parties, garages, basements, 7 years at Minneapolis’ Gay Pride Festival, performing live on-air radio and cable access TV, appearing on several compilation CDs and volumes of glowing press… The most recent move for GGB has been their move to San Francisco, becoming a mainstay of the acoustic open-mic scene where they hope to flourish and eventually decay and rot in the friendly streets, bumming cigarettes and spare change from the next generation of hopeful musicians. BILAL doors @ 7pm; show @ 8pm. $23 advance; $25 door. Performing live: Bilal B'nai Rebelfront DJ Sake One (Local 1200) Bilal, brings his Philladelphia roots and affection for soul music to the stage in a rare trio performance with Blue Note recording artist and musical director for both Bilal and Mos Def, Robert Glasper on keys. Considered a star in the nu-soul genre, Bilal's earnest harmonies tie closely to the likes of his peers; Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and D'Angelo but with a panache that is undeniably his own. His "break out" occurred in 2000, when hip hop impresario, Common featured Bilal on his seminal record, Like Water For Chocolate. Bilal's debut album, 1st Born Second met critical acclaim and showcased his eclectic range and vocal prowess. The album dances between boom bap production and sensuous love ballads, an intriguing journey for the listener. Bilal's sophomore album, Love for Sale has yet to enjoy an official release date but has made waves nonetheless with bootleg distribution. Bilal, who is an impeccable live performer, trained in classical jazz and big band symphonies, offers up a perfect Father's Day celebration with this rare and intimate performance.
