Marc Ribot Marc Ribot was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1954. As a teen, he played guitar in various garage bands while studying with his mentor, Haitian classical guitarist and composer Frantz Casseus. In 1978, Ribot crossed the river to New York City, where he served as sideman for such musicians as jazz organist Jack McDuff and legendary soul shouter Wilson Pickett. Ribot began his five-year stint as a member of the Lounge Lizards (John Lurie’s innovative and influential Downtown jazz ensemble) in 1984. At the time, Marc’s playing, which blended elements of classic Blues guitar with the ironic No Wave/Knitting Factory aesthetic, caught the ear of a number of artists who were also interested in amalgamating and disrupting disparate musical traditions. Ribot performed on some of these singer/songwriter’s finest records, including Elvis Costello’s SPIKE, MIGHTY LIKE A ROSE, and KOJAK VARIETY; Marianne Faithful’s BLAZING AWAY; and Tom Waits’ RAIN DOGS, BIG TIME, FRANK’S WILD YEARS, MULE VARIATIONS, and the recently released REAL GONE. Hot off the heels of the big night at The Mercury Lounge, Mike Krum is set for their next show in New York on March 13th (next Thursday!), at The Knitting Factory. The show is at 9 pm at The Knitting Factory is located at 74 Leonard Street (between Church and Broadway). Buy your tix online here! AND...Mike Krum has invited fellow Brooklyn band Balthrop, Alabama to share the night with them! Mike says, "I usually don't pick up bands and bring them home, but they did perform in my living room at 3 a.m. No one in the building complained and that's a good thing. But I was drunk. I kid, I kid [ed. note: he's not]... They'll be playing with us as we keep the spotlight in Brooklyn!" So as you can tell, the Knitting Factory show is shaping up to be another night not to be missed... Door: $10, All Ages. Mike Krum will play at 9pm. Balthrop Alabama will play at 10:00pm.
