DIRECT ACTION & RALLY: CHEVRON RICHMOND REFINERY cosponsored by Direct Action to Stop the War, Greenaction, West County Toxics Coalition, Amazon Watch, Richmond Progressive Alliance, Richmond Greens, Community Health Initiative and Communities for a Better Environment. 11am Rally at Judge G. Carroll Park W. Cutting Blvd & S. Garrard Blvd, Richmond 1pm Nonviolent Direct Action at Chevron Refinery 841 Chevron Way, Richmond (Ongoing shuttle buses from Richmond BART) The purpose of this action is shut the Chevron refinery down for the day, and to support community efforts to stop Chevron from expanding its refinery, which will increase pollution and cause asthma, cancer and rising death rates in surrounding communities. Chevron is driving the war and occupation in Iraq, refining over a million barrels of stolen Iraqi oil in Richmond a month, and actively lobbying for the privatization of Iraq's oil fields so companies like Chevron can seize control of them. Join us, and help send a clear message to Chevron: Stop stealing Iraqi oil, and stop polluting our communities! We will shut down the Richmond Chevron refinery by land, by bike, and by sea. We’re asking that you form an affinity group, and help us shut down Chevron. Here’s some ways you can plug in and help out: 1. Get together with a group of your friends, and help blockade the refinery (please check in with the Chevron working group if you want to do this – their email address is dasw.chevron [at] gmail.com). 2. Join the “bike brigade,” and help us block trucks from getting into the facility. 3. If you have a boat, you can join the “DASW Yacht Club,” and try to block Chevron tankers from accessing the facility! 4. If these options don’t sound appealing to you, there are many, many other important roles you can play in this action. Please come to the next Chevron organizing meeting (check website for details). 5. If helping organize this action isn’t something you have time for, you can just show up at Carroll Park (W. Cutting Blvd. and S. Garrard Blvd. in Richmond) on March 15th, at 11am. And please tell your friends! Have you ever wanted to make your own custom silver jewelry? Now is your chance (and it’s easier than you think)! In one three-hour session you will learn the basics of making your own beautiful and unique jewelry with PMC (Precious Metal Clay). PMC is real silver suspended in a clay-like medium. It’s non-toxic and requires very little training or special equipment. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the basics of PMC: layering and adding textures, stone setting, torch firing (affordable method that you can do at home) and finishing techniques. You decide what to make in class; either a pendant, charm or earrings. The materials fee (paid in class directly to the teacher) covers your PMC+ and in-class use of all the necessary tools - everything needed to create your one of a kind jewelry. You will leave with completed pieces of silver jewelry designed by YOU, handouts & resources, and the skills necessary to make fine silver jewelry, from start to finish, in your very own home. The best part is... NO PRIOR JEWELRY MAKING SKILLS ARE NECESSARY! $55 (+ $35 MAT FEE)

The cold process method of soapmaking relies almost exclusively on the heat generated by saponification (the chemical reaction of fatty acids and alkali to produce soap). No external heat is applied once the ingredients have been mixed. Although it may seem complicated when you are first starting out, making your own soap from scratch (the way some of our grandparents did) using all-natural ingredients can be both fun and rewarding ~ not to mention extremely addicting! $55 (+ $ 6 MAT FEE)

You may be wondering what on earth these three products have in common?! The answer is that they are all solid oil products: They contain a combination of vegetable, plant, or nut oils and butters (and sometimes beeswax or another type of wax), yet they remain solid at room temperature. You can make all kinds of wonderful solid oil products, and in this class we will focus on three of my favorites. First, learn to make your own signature non-petroleum lip balm (completely from scratch!) that smells so delicious you'll have to warn people not to eat it! We'll discuss the *key* natural ingredients as well as the properties of everything we use. You'll learn the necessary tools and equipment, proper heating methods and order of ingredients, how to properly flavor and color lip balm that your lips will love. I'll also share with you my *secret recipe* and all the tips/tricks to make, package, and label lip balm in a tube. Next, you'll learn to make bath melts. Also known as "Tub Truffles" or "Bath Candy" bath melts are a high-fat treat without the guilt - a solid at room temperature "oil" that slowly melts in your tub (not in your mouth!), enriching & softening the bath water and releasing a wonderful scent. These tiny all-natural treats will make your skin as soft as a baby's bottom. Learn which oils and butters you can use, what other fun ingredients can be added to make fizzy bath melts, how to scent them using pure essential oils, and several ideas for how to creatively mold and package your melts for gift giving. And finally, you'll learn to make my new favorite product - SOLID salt scrubs. These are a very new take on an old favorite - so new in fact that I've only seen them in a handful of boutique stores. Solid scrubs have all the exfoliating benefits of a regular salt scrub without the mess - and less packaging too! Discover this fun new skin care product that you and your friends will love. Due to the nature of having to make these products in batches, this class is primarily demo-style with hands-on elements. Leave with 2 delicious flavors of natural lip balm, 2 luxurious bath melts, 2 solid salt scrubs, and enough information to make all three products on your own at home. $55 (+ $15 MAT FEE)

Throw away your glue... out with the old... in with the new! Beeswax is the newest, most exciting way to create collage works of art with amazing depth and texture. Join Diane, altered book artist, for this stimulating hands-on class, and create a pair of one-of-a-kind wax collages to take home. Students will start by selecting collage papers for background, focal point and accent while the pots of beeswax melt. Then, play around with composition as you learn some basic design concepts. Now the real fun begins! Each student will apply a thin layer of beeswax onto the surface of their collages to adhere the carefully selected papers. You will then add more layers and wax to create the exact collages you desire. Students will have the option of adding dimensional letters for added depth. Other final embellishments will be incorporated to give your pieces texture and a finished look. The materials fee covers everything you need: two canvas boards, collage materials, ephemera, beeswax, embellishments and more. You will create a pair of imaginative beeswax art collages that you will be proud to display in your home or give as a gift to *wow* your recipient. $45 (+ $15 MAT FEE)
