Dancing will be taken to new heights on September 27 as Grand Center produces its second annual “Dancing in the Street” festival. Serving as a celebration for the opening of the fall arts season, Grand Center’s “Dancing in the Street” festival will be filled with juried performances from approximately 45 dance companies consisting of more than 570 dancers performing throughout the district on four outdoor stages. In addition, the UK group Neighbourhood Watch Stilts International (NWSI) will headline. The event will take place from noon to 9 p.m. and is free to the public. In keeping with its goal to provide dazzling entertainment, Grand Center plans to introduce Neighbourhood Watch Stilts International (NWSI) from New Castle Upon Tyne, England – a first to St. Louis. NWIS’s amazing stilt-walkers defy gravity as their all-enveloping textile costumes continually evolve into new shapes as they create a nonverbal sculptural ballet. In addition, NWSI is bringing five of their “Les Oiseaux de Lux” monochromatic bird costumes and stilt performers, who have dazzled audiences in more than 36 countries around the world. With their fantastic costumes and enchanting ever changing performances that defy description, NWSI performances have been described as “stunning spectators with their extraordinary explosion of color and movement.” The entire Grand Center district will participate in the “Dancing in the Street” celebration of the opening of the arts season by offering open houses, tours, special exhibits and performances, gallery walks, the Earthways Energy Festival, and special offers from area restaurants.
