The Truth behind "Good Deed" Marketing

Where: Flat Top Johnny's

Date: 2007-07-25 18:00:00

Type:

Boston Marketing Club- the Event for Professionals Passionate about Marketing Produced by the Boston Chapter of the American Marketing Association Every year, companies contribute hundreds of millions to charities, start foundations and encourage employees to volunteer in their communities. Many of these good deeds are well-documented and produce a "halo effect" for their sponsors: McDonald's and the Ronald McDonald House, The Boston Red Sox and the Jimmy Fund, Starbucks and Fair Trade Certified Coffee, to name a few. So why do companies pour their time and money into performing good deeds? Are they just looking for tax deductions and public relations gambits, or are they sincerely committing themselves to improving our world? Do customers really care - and do they demonstrate more loyalty to socially responsible companies? The Boston Marketing Club is about much more than networking, although networking is highly encouraged. Our events bring together marketers from one of the nation's most enthusiastic and innovative marketing communities. Meet new people, discuss a hot topic of the day and participate in real-time opinion polling led by "The Connectors*." Check out a previous event . If you're fed up with the same old routine (slap on a nametag, grab a drink, exchange some business cards), get ready for something new. Meet the thought leaders, members of your community - people who share your passion for marketing. Price: $10 for AMA members. $30 for non-members Billiards and appetizers are included / cash bar. *CONNECTORS - You know these people, they're the ones that keep us talking, the life of the party. Brooklyn-based doom quintet Bloody Panda is a strange animal. A hybrid of experimental atmospherics and cold, evil metal, they're equally at home opening for Soilent Green and playing with local avant-folk acts. Bloody Panda has been turning heads since 2003 with its live show - an intense, theatrical experience in which band members perform in executioner's hoods. However, the nucleus of this dirge is vocalist Yoshiko Ohara, whose deep and sorrowful chants belie her diminutive stature.
