Tinariwen, are Tuareg nomads-turned-rock-performers and are said to be the first band of their kind to use electric guitars. Formed in 1982, their music is typically sung in French and Tamashek languages and is mostly about independence for their people from the government of Mali. Tinariwen’s edgy, bluesy sound has earned them fans like Robert Plant and Carlos Santana, whose music inspired Tinariwen’s members when they first picked up guitars. Port Huron Project 2: “The Problem is Civil Obedience” is a reenactment of a speech originally delivered at a 1971 anti-war rally on Boston Common by Howard Zinn, the well-known author & activist. This event is part of the Port Huron Project, a series of reenactments of protest speeches from the New Left movements of the 1960s and '70s. Each performance takes place at the site of the original speech and is delivered to an audience of invited guests and passers-by. The Port Huron Project is organized by artist Mark Tribe. The Dave Brubeck Quartet

The legendary pianist, who came to national attention in the 1950's with his adventurous use of uncommon time signatures and his incorporation of classical approaches in jazz, keeps performing at a brisk pace, trying out new material and revisiting classics with a new vision to keep his music fresh.
