Breaking into the Acting Industry

Where: Webster Hall

Date: 2008-06-19 22:00:00

Type:

Breaking into the Acting Industry New York and LA are the first places people move to when trying to become professional actors. After making many sacrifices, people leave disappointed, or stay with the hopes of one day making the “big break”. For most people, however, the road to Hollywood is too long, and their dreams are often abandoned. This doesn’t always have to be the case, however, as the world gets smaller due to the advancements in networking and communication. One of the best pieces of advice given to aspiring professional actors is “don’t quit your day job”. There are tons of opportunities out there, but they certainly don’t come cheap. Many celebrities of today and yesterday scrimped and saved in order to move to the big cities, only to take up minimal ones before they broke through. It can cost a fortune to get the necessary headshots, agents, and managers that can be extremely useful, if not required, to get many jobs. Even seemingly “overnight sensations” had a rough patch. Another well-known fact in the industry is that the people you see in movies and on TV are all very well connected. A lot of this is true, as we all hear of stories about stars knowing the right people and catching that “lucky” break. Even if your brother’s friend’s sister’s hairdresser’s uncle lives in NY and his neighbor works in the company that caters for “Guiding Light”, you still probably won’t be getting any auditions soon. Lastly, one of the biggest setbacks that struggling actors (even models, musicians, and TV personalities) face is location. This is perceived as being just as true in this sense as it is in real estate. If you don't live in either Los Angeles or New York City, your chances are diminished considerably, simply because 85% of all film and TV casting is performed in LA, 10% in NYC, and 5% elsewhere. All of these issues have been true hindrances--- until now. InterFACE Talent is a completely new concept to the world of acting. If you have the face, the look, the talent, and the drive, none of the other complications will deter you. With the incredibly easy to use help of InterFACE Pages, you can get as close to your dreams as you’ve imagined, without the sacrifices that keep many people from achieving. You can create your own profile, with headshots and your resume professionally done, and agencies,, directors and producers all have access to it—from their own offices in LA, NY, and the other 5% elsewhere. You can still hold on to your “day job” and get the exposure necessary to land the profession of your dreams. InterFACE makes your face closer than you would even get if you moved to the cities, as the decision makers are using the database much more frequently than they are seeing unsigned actors. It is still possible to pursue other ventures in your life, such as school, college, and making a living while you wait to take the stage. For those without even the possibility of getting connected from their hometowns, or even those in NY/LA without any leads into the business, InterFACE works for you too. The second you create your profile, you are immediately networked with thousands of people in the industry, looking for actors and clients. Your name will be seen by the ones you already know, and the possibilities are truly endless. By simply visiting http://www.interfacetalent.com/pages.htm, you will see how simple it now is to make your dreams come true, without moving, wasting thousands of dollars, or sacrificing important parts of your life. ABOUT THE COMEDIANS MARIA BAMFORD recently starred in “The Comedians of Comedy” which was just released on DVD and has performed her stand up comedy on "Late Night with Conan O’Brien," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live." In addition to having her own Comedy Central Presents half-hour special, Maria has contributed voices for Nickelodeon cartoons including "Charlotte’s Web," "Hey Arnold," "CatDog" (in which she’s a series regular) and their upcoming animation feature "Barnyard." At the HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado, her unique character-based and edgy stand-up excited Hollywood television and film executives which helped her land many memorable roles such as marrying John Travolta in the feature film "Lucky Numbers," and teaching Jenna Elfman how to play the violin on the hit series "Dharma and Greg." ANDY KINDLER is known in comedy circles as a trouble maker. Originally from New York, and now complaining from California, he annoys people all over the world. Andy is a frequent guest and correspondent for "The Late Show with David Letterman." Just as the comedy boom of the nineties was imploding, Andy wrote the “Hack’s Handbook” for National Lampoon. This “how to” guide satirized and exposed tired comedy formulas. Andy can currently be seen in a new standup special on Comedy Central. Other credits include the HBO "Young Comedians Special," "Late Night with Conan O’Brien," "The Daily Show," "Dr. Katz Professional Therapist," "Home Movies" and "The Larry Sanders Show." Andy is often recognized for playing the life affirming character “Andy” on the CBS sitcom, "Everybody Loves Raymond." Trial by Laughter, a show with seven comedians competing for the approval of fellow comedians, audience members, and fans on the web, all while vying for cash prizes and media exposure comes to Comix April 29th. Seven acts, known as "defendants," perform five minute sets. Defendants consist of comedians of all levels, from complete newbies to international headliners and are pre-screened by the producers to ensure that the audience gets the best show possible. "We really wanted to do something different," said Executive Producer and co-creator Steve Hofstetter. ‘Last Comic Standing’ is for seasoned veterans, and many new talent nights in the city don't have any actual industry watching. Trial by Laughter is a show for talented comics who just need a break." The show also features two guests and two headliners, as well as regular hosts Steve Hofstetter and Moody McCarthy. The winner chosen by an equal combination of judge, audience, & web votes, is invited back to compete again on the following show. A three-camera shoot, Trial by Laughter features broadcast partners like National Lampoon Radio (XM), the forthcoming Comedy Express TV network, and LiveVideo.com. To quote the magazine's review, "Abra does more for music than just make it, she breathes life and a spirit of purpose back into an industry that has been gold-mined and American-Idoled to a pulp. Simply put, just when this writer was beginning to lose faith in this whole music thing, Abra showed that there is still magic in it." http://www.abramoore.com
