$5 Lola und Bilidikid, E. Kutlug Ataman, 1995 The Goethe-Institut Los Angeles celebrates 40 years of Berlin – L.A. Sister-City Relations with this year-long program spanning from rarely seen silents to East- and West- German filmproductions to the cutting-edge films of the last Berlin Filmfestival. STARRING BERLIN presents key films, not only in a film-historic, but also film-aesthetic context. Thrillers (M, Angels of Iron), comedies (One ,Two, Three, Run Lola Run), dramas (The Last Laugh, The Downfall) and the occasional documentary (Look at this city) make for a challenging, highly informative and entertaining year of films. STARRING BERLIN invites the viewer to experience 100 years in the life of Berlin as seen in its films. The first segment (January through April) covers the periods of post-World War I and Weimar Germany and ends with the first post-World War II film and German anti-war classic Die Mörder sind unter uns (The Murderers are among us). 1/29/2007HINTERTREPPE, BERLIN - SYMPHONY OF A GREAT CITY (DIE SINFONIE EINER GROSSSTADT)2/5/2007THE LAST LAUGH (DER LETZTE MANN)2/12/2007ASPHALT2/20/2007MOTHER KRAUSEN'S JOURNEY TO HAPPINESS (MUTTER KRAUSENS FAHR INS GLUECK)2/26/2007PEOPLE ON SUNDAY (MENSCHEN AM SONNTAG)3/5/2007THE BLUE ANGEL (DER BLAUE ENGEL)3/12/2007M (EINE STADT SUCHT EINEN MÖRDER)4/2/2007KUHLE WAMPE4/10/2007OLYMPIA - FEST DER VOELKER (OLYMPIAD)4/16/2007UNTER DEN BRUECKEN4/23/2007DER UNTERGANG4/30/2007DIE MÖRDER SIND UNTER UNS (THE MURDERERS ARE AMONG US)5/7/2007DEUTSCHLAND IM JAHRE NULL (GERMANIA ANNO ZERO)5/14/2007EINS, ZWEI, DREI (ONE, TWO, THREE)5/21/2007BERLIN - ECKE SCHOENHAUSER5/29/2007SCHAUT AUF DIESE STADT (LOOK AT THIS CITY)6/4/2007DIE LEGENDE VON PAUL UND PAULA6/11/2007ENGEL AUS EISEN (ANGELS OF IRON)6/18/2007NACHREDE AUF KLARA HEIDEBRECK6/25/2007DER TUNNEL (THE TUNNEL)7/2/2007SONNENALLEE (SUN ALLEY)7/9/2007DIE MAUER (THE WALL)7/16/2007DER HIMMEL ÜBER BERLIN8/20/2007COMING OUT8/27/2007IN WEITER FERNE SO NAH (FAR AWAY SO CLOSE)9/4/2007DAS LEBEN IST EINE BAUSTELLE (LIFE IS ALL YOU GET)9/10/2007LOLA RENNT (RUN LOLA RUN)9/17/2007PLUS MINUS NULL (BREAK EVEN)9/24/2007NACHTGESTALTEN (NIGHT SHAPES)10/1/2007WEGE IN DIE NACHT (PATHS INTO THE NIGHT)10/8/2007LOLA UND BILIDIKID10/15/2007EMIL UND DIE DETEKTIVE10/22/2007BERLIN IS IN GERMANY10/29/2007GOOD BYE LENIN!11/5/2007HERR LEHMANN11/12/2007DIE FETTEN JAHREN SIND VORBEI (THE EDUKATORS)11/19/2007GESPENSTER (GHOSTS)11/26/2007SOMMER VORM BALKON (SUMMER IN BERLIN)12/3/2007KNALLHART (TOUGH ENOUGH)

Talib Kweli's richly textured hip hop is intelligent and insightful, thoughtful and thought provoking. A manifesto of creative energy (political, cultural and spiritual), Talib's lyrical dexterity (both in style and content) is remarkable because he drops lines with such conviction and confidence.

Ron Rifkin, John Glover, Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Radnor and Patricia Wettig are set to reprise their roles in Jon Robin Baitz's modern tragedy "The Paris Letter" for L.A. Theatre Works. LATW records five performances February 20-24 at the Skirball Cultural Center to air on its nationally-syndicated radio theater series, "The Play's The Thing" which broadcasts weekly on public and satellite radio. In "The Paris Letter," Baitz, known as one of America's foremost playwrights on themes of conscience, writes about power and money - and the ruinous effects they can have on friendship, love, marriage, and ultimately oneself. Wall Street powerhouse Sandy Sonenberg finds his personal and professional life threatened by the unraveling secrets of his past. After burying his true sexual identity, a lethal affair with a young male associate forces Sonenberg to confront a lifetime of unrequited love and betrayal. Variety wrote, " 'The Paris Letter' has potential to rank beside works of Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams. Baitz writes vibrant, stingingly literate dialogue." For three decades, L.A. Theatre Works has been the leading radio theater company in the United States, committed to using innovative technologies to preserve and promote significant works of dramatic literature and bringing live theater into the homes of millions. LATW's radio theater series, The Play's The Thing, airs weekly on 89.3 FM KPCC in Southern California; 89.7 WGBH in Boston; 91.5 FM WBEZ in Chicago; 94.9 KUOW in Seattle; 93.5 FM KRTS "Marfa Public Radio" in Texas; 90.5 FM KUT in Austin;88.9 FM KUNM in Albuquerque; 94.1 KPFA in Northern California; 91.1 FM KRCB in Sonoma County; 89.1 KUOR in Redlands; as well as on many other public radio stations nationwide and XM Satellite Radio.
