Welcome to Ozomatli. Version 12.0 Rested, revived, and ready for the next level. On the surface, nothing's changed. There's the same core line-up, the same oppositional politics, the same live shows that erupt into drum-line blessed community parties, and the same devotion to polyglot urban sound clashing. But here's what's new: after 12 years of collaborative song-writing, 12 years of constant touring everywhere from Denver to Tokyo to Sydney, 12 years of supporting anti-war mobilizations and global human rights movements, 12 years of pioneering Spanish-English mash-ups of hip hop, salsa, cumbia, dub, and Middle Eastern funk, and most importantly, 12 years of facing up to internal battles and personal struggles, they've emerged anew with their fourth full-length studio album, Don't Mess With The Dragon, the band's most cohesive, polished, and joyous record to date.

Missy Higgins, Zox, Amity Front

Where: World Cafe Live

Date: 2008-03-11 17:00:00

Type:

Missy Higgins is a singer/songwriter from Melbourne, Australia. What happens when groove-laden reggae and frenetic rock meet a violin sonata at a house party? The answer is ZOX, an emerging foursome from Providence, RI, whose unique blend of rock, reggae, punk and classical has begun to shake up clubs and colleges across New England. This rock quartet from Washington, DC came together in early 1999. After a few name changes and the addition of a lead guitarist, they settled on the name of Army of Me and began to play up and down the East Coast. The Amity Front has developed into one of the best old time-blues and americana bands around. The sound is a ride into America's past complete with Erik Alan's finger-picking, lead guitar Levin Schwartz's dynamic solos and upright bassist Max Adam's low end walking bass lines.
