No plans for Sat yet? Please come out & join us for some friendly pool games!! All skill levels are welcome! I am hosting another social pool mixer. As usual, we would be rotating people around the tables every 30-45 minutes. Below is the details. Our event usually has 25-30 people showed up (Please ignore the number of RSVPs on the Upcoming.org as I would be promoting the events via a few channels.) When: Saturday Aug 25th 7:00pm-10:30pm Location: Shoreline Billiards at 1400 North Shoreline Blvd. #C-1, Mountain View, CA Cost: $15.00/person to be collected when signing in. Ladies will receive a discounted entry fee of $10 for this event. For those who would like to stay & play more pool after the event finished at 10:30pm, Shoreline Billiards offer our group $5 flat fee per person til they close at 2am RSVP: Please email me @ soyeeng@gmail.com by Friday Aug 24th. I need your FULL name, email address, number of guests (if any) with their names, phone number optional. Although RSVP is not required, it would be helpful to let me know if you plan on coming. I don't have email access after 4pm on Sat, so if you do decide to join us the last minute, please simply show up. How we'll find each other: Ask for Shirley's or BAPBSC's group How it works: 1. I would rotate people around tables every 40-45 minutes. Table assignment is random, though I would make my best effort to make sure a good gender mix per table. If you got rotated to a table that you have already played with 2 out of 3 players TWICE, please let me know, I would try my best to switch table for you. 2. I would try to have 4 people per table. 3. Since we would be rotating, it's less confusing if everyone plays the same rules. Game rules can be emailed if requested & is available on the event date. 4. When table assignment has announced, everyone has to move to their next assigned table even if you "think" you are almost done with the game, since it's impossible for every table to finish at the same time, that way it won't slow down the table rotation for everyone. 5. If you need to leave early, please let me know 10 min before you actually leave, so I would leave your name out for next rotation. To be notified with our future pool events, go to yahoo.com, then go to "group", search for BAPBSC (Stands for Bay Area Pool, Billiards, Snooker Club), then select to join/ subscribe to the club. The conference Feminicide = Sanctioned Murder: Race, Gender and Violence in Global Context will be examining the murders and disappearances of women in Mexico, Guatemala and Canada that are occurring on an epidemic scale. The aim and purpose of the conference is to stop the violence and map out ways to bring about justice. Distinguished participants include Elena Poniatowska, one of Mexico’s most eminent writers, whose innovative writing advocates for women and the poor in their struggle for social and economic justice, and Lidia Cacho, who recently received an award from Amnesty International for exposing a net of pederasts linked to the government and big business, and for creating a shelter for the children, victims of trafficking and abuse in Cancún, Mexico. The conference, presented by Chicana and Chicano Studies of The Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity at Stanford University, brings together the most knowledgeable experts on the subject of feminicide in recent years, including mothers of murdered and disappeared women, activists, academics, writers and journalists, human rights lawyers, artists and filmmakers. In Ciudad Juarez alone over 400 victims have been murdered over the last fourteen years and over 600 have been reported disappeared. In Guatemala, more than 700 women a year are being killed with impunity. Recently, a conference in Canada revealed that over 100 indigenous women have been murdered in a similar manner. Hi, all beginner poolplayers out there, this event is set up specially with you in mind. I have recruited some advanced players who are all very patient coaches for this pool event. This would be a great opportunity for beginners to learn the basics including the rules & the fundamentals of poolplaying while socializing & meeting new friends. You would not feel the pressure even you have never played pool before. No need for coaching? No problem. Here is what I am going to do. I would divide the participants into 2 groups. If you are not interested in pool lesson, I would do the regular table rotation every 45 min so that you can meet more new players. The 2nd group would be the advanced players coaching beginners. I may rotate this group as well depending on how the turnout will be. When signing up for this event, please let me know whether you would like to be in the one with pool lesson or the pure social group. PS This is not "formal" lesson, just coaching by advanced players. Below is the info: please feel free to email me with any questions. Our event usually has 25-35 people show up (Please ignore the number of RSVPs on the Upcoming.Org site, as I would be promoting the event through various channels) Date/ Time: Sat Dec 1st 7pm-10:30pm Location: Shoreline Billiards 1400 N Shoreline Blvd, C-1 Mountain View Cost: $15 per person to be collected when signing in. All ladies will receive a discounted entry rate of $10 for this event. For those who would like to play longer after the event ended at 10:30pm, Shoreline Billiards offers a flat rate of $5 per person for the rest of the evening. They close at 2am. Plenty of time for you to practice your newly learned pool technique. The Coaches would be paying the same entry fee of $15, however, they would get to stay for free play after the event ends at 10:30pm To RSVP: Please email me at soyeeng@gmail.com by Friday Nov 30th. Please include your Full name, email address, number of guests (if any) with their names. Phone number is optional. Please be sure to indicate whether you'd like to be put in pool lesson group or not. Although RSVP is not required, I would like to plan on how many tables & coaches I would need, so please let me know if you think you are likely to join us. I don't have email access after 4pm on Sat, so if you do decide to join us at the last minute, please simply show up. I don't have email access after 4pm on Friday, so if you do decide to join us the last minute, you can simply show up or call me at 415-215-0761. How it works: 1. I would rotate people around tables every 40-45 minutes. Table assignment is random, though I would make my best effort to make sure a good gender mix per table. 2. I would try to have 4 people per table. 3. Since we would be rotating, it's less confusing if everyone plays the same rules. Game rules is available on the event date. How we'll find each other: Ask for Shirley's or BAPBSC group Look forward to seeing you then. To be notified with our future pool events, go to yahoo.com, then go to "group", search for BAPBSC (Stands for Bay Area Pool, Billiards, Snooker Club), then select to join/ subscribe to the club. It is FREE to join. IMPORTANT: If you don't have Yahoo ID, please email me at soyeeng@gmail.com with your email address, I would manually add you as member. Shirley

Get to know your camera with professional photographer Marc Silber, and allow him to inspire your next journey through the eyes of a lens. Marc is a native of the Peninsula, an avid outdoorsman, and, a graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute. He has been a professional photographer for more than 40 years, and, he loves to teach photography through his workshops and published works. In his words, Today everyone has a camera, but do they know how to use it? Rushing around, snapping pictures distracts from the core joy of photography. The art of photography is best defined in the simple action of finding a shot and showing others what I see. This view of life transcends just looking through a camera lens and leads to really seeing life. Marc studied the works of masters such as Ansel Adams, the Westons and Henri Cartier-Bresson, but quickly forged his own unique style and quality of light-writing (etymology of photography). His photography tips and experiences are sure to inspire the artist in you! Event submitted by Eventful.com on behalf of msilber.

Have you ventured in to see what is there? Join Jason Alba, co-author of "I'm on Facebook--Now What???" for an indepth presentation of eight things you should do or know about as a professional. Understanding that you need to have a high ROI, and your investment is time, Jason will show you what you need to know to develop your own Facebook strategy. Finally he decided to step back and figure out the job search process and try to understand all of the available resources. Within a few months he had designed a personal job search tool, JibberJobber.com, which helps professionals manage career and job search activities the same way a salesman manages prospects and customer data. Jason blogs at JibberJobber, wrote "I'm on LinkedIn -- Now What??" and co-authored "I'm on Facebook--Now What???". $25 fee to attend ($30 at the door), includes a free book.

It is a unique ability to be able to step back and take a reflective look into one's past. This presentation is intended to provide a reflective look at what you have accomplished and what you want to accomplish. Looking for a new opportunity is stressful but can be a positive opportunity to review, reflect, challenge, and think outside the box in discovering what you should do with your life going forward. Be careful, this presentation may take you to places you haven't thought about in some time and may uncover your true passion for building something you are proud of. 'Building a Resume that tells your Story': Your resume should tell you story with a clear 'Picture' of your experience, capabilities, education, skills, and accomplishments in a one or two page summary. Your résum?#39;s purpose is to get your foot in the door. A resume does its job successfully if it does not exclude you from consideration. To prepare a successful resume, you need to know how to review, summarize, and present your experiences and achievements in a concise manner. This presentation will guide you through a review of your resume from the perspective of the hiring interviewer and their company. 'Before, During, and after the Interview': The Boy Scouts have it right. 'Be prepared'. The job interview is only a stop along the path of securing a new position. In some respect by the time you get to the interview if you haven't done your homework it may be to late to secure the job. This presentation will also talk about: 'killer resumes', working with recruiters, and assuring you have the best information possible in presenting yourself in the interview. Speaker Bio: Mr. Sanderson has over thirty-five years of senior executive search, technology marketing, and start-up company management experience. His background includes member of the founding executive team for multiple technology companies including Kinetics Inc., National Semiconductor Security Business Unit, and a division of Novell Inc. No plans for Sat yet? Please come out & join us for some friendly pool games!! All skill levels are welcome! I am hosting another social pool mixer. As usual, we would be rotating people around the tables every 30-45 minutes. Below is the details. Our event usually has 25-30 people showed up (Please ignore the number of RSVPs on the Upcoming.org as I would be promoting the events via a few channels.) When: Saturday Nov 15th 7:00pm-10:30pm Location: California Billiards at 881 East El Camino Real, Mountain View, CA Cost: $15.00/person to be collected when signing in. For those who would like to stay & play more pool after the event finished at 10:30pm, California Billiard Club offers our group $10 flat fee per person til they close at 2am RSVP: Please email me @ soyeeng@gmail.com by Friday Nov 14th. It is FREE to join. IMPORTANT: If you don't have Yahoo ID, please email me at soyeeng@gmail.com with your email address, I would manually add you as member. I look forward to seeing you all again then. Shirley

Our event usually has 25-35 people show up (Please ignore the number of RSVPs on the Upcoming.Org site, as I would be promoting the event through various channels) Date/ Time: Sat Aug 1st 7pm-10:30pm Location: Shoreline Billiards 1400 N Shoreline Blvd, C-1 Mountain View Cost: $15 per person to be collected when signing in. For those who would like to play longer after the event ended at 10:30pm, Shoreline Billiards offers a flat rate of $5 per person for the rest of the evening. They close at 2am. Plenty of time for you to practice your newly learned pool technique. To RSVP: Please email me at soyeeng@gmail.com by Friday July 31st. Presenter: Dave McClure In September 2007, psychologist BJ Fogg teamed up with startup-advisor Dave McClure to teach a new Stanford course about using metrics to create engaging Facebook apps. They knew the risks: The course could end up a spectacular failure. Now in December, their experimental Facebook course is complete after 10 busy weeks. So what did they learn working with a teaching team and 73 Stanford students? Dave McClure will share the course outcomes -- both good and bad. Stanford students will take the stage as they demo their new Facebbok apps and share inside stories about what worked and what did not. You will see: * Why over 4 million Facebook users installed the student apps in six weeks * Why over 1 million people engage with the student apps each day * How some apps targeted user engagement while others were designed for wide distribution * Why many first attempts at creating viral apps failed * How metrics can be applied to product development and marketing * Why Facebook is #1 persuasive technology of 2007 * How class insights apply to many web experiences for consumers Course website: http://captology.stanford.edu/facebook $20 members/$25 non-members online; $25/$30 walkin.

SVASE StartUp-U SV: Creating a compelling Executive Summary Start: 05/28/2008 - 11:45am End: 05/28/2008 - 1:30pm Contact Info: Fenwick & West LLP, 801 California Street, Mt. With your help, we will start on time so the speaker can provide you with as much interactive information as possible. Please arrive by 11:45am to register. We will start the program promptly at 12:00! CREATING A COMPELLING EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The purpose of the Executive Summary is to generate sufficient interest to get you to a meeting where you can go into more detail. It should short, sharp & create excitement. The response to it should be “That sounds interesting, tell me more”, so you don’t need to include everything, just the key information. The executive summary is often your initial face to a potential investor, so it is critically important that you create the right first impression. Contrary to the advice in many articles on the topic, you do not need to explain the entire business plan in 250 words. You need to convey its essence, and its energy. You have about 30 seconds to grab an investor’s interest. You want to be clear and compelling. Most guides to writing an executive summary miss the key point: The job of the executive summary is to sell, not to describe. So, forget what everyone else has been telling you. Come and hear what it really takes to create a clear, concise and compelling executive summary! Popular FAQs regarding Startup U: What is the cost of this event? A $5 (member) or $15 (affiliate/non-member) registration fee, plus a $1.50 credit card processing fee, includes event and lunch, available through advanced online registration. A $10 or $20 fee is collected at the door. What is the format of a Startup-U event typically? Generally speaking, each event begins with an introduction by the host followed by a brief talk about SVASE and self-introductions by each of the attendees. After the introductions, the host introduces a speaker (usually 20 minute presentation, followed by group discussion) or the discussion topic; the exact format varies based on the host and that variety is what makes this event so exciting! Who should attend? Startup entrepreneurs, anyone thinking about forming a startup, service providers, angels and VCs active in the Silicon Valley information tech and biotech entrepreneur communities. Past participants include: Current and aspiring entrepreneurs Venture Capitalists, Angels and other members of the funding community Service Providers (e.g. human resources, contract programming, etc.) Independent Consultants (e.g. sales, marketing, engineering, etc.) Do I need to be a member of SVASE to attend this event? Non-members and guests of members are welcome to attend any 2 SVASE Startup-U events. Afterwards, we recommend that non-members become members of SVASE.
