Kevin Weeks and Phylis Karas appear at Borders to discuss and sign copies of their new book, Brutal. When James J. "Whitey" Bulger, currently on the FBI's Most Wanted Fugitive list, ran the Irish mob, no one was closer to him than Kevin Weeks. He was Bulger's handpicked deputy, trusted confidante, and loyal partner. No one at the top of Bulger's operation has ever talked, and the low-level guys just haven't gotten it right. Weeks is the real deal, and he tells it all: what it was like on the inside, the actual deals, the hits, and who ratted on whom.

October 10, 2007 Wednesday, 06:30 PM Tickets: $25 general admission; $20 members, seniors, and students Take a radical look at art with artist and Grammy-winning musician David Byrne and evolutionary psychologist Geoffrey Miller. In his recent book "The Mating Mind: How Sexual Choice Shaped the Evolution of Human Nature," Miller applies ideas from evolutionary psychology and sexual selection to creativity. In conversation, the two lay siege to the world of contemporary art and culture—Miller as a scientist, and Byrne as a practitioner and fan. Stay for a New England premiere book signing immediately after the program as David Byrne signs copies of his book "Arboretum." "SMFA Traveling Scholars," on view at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, February 2–March 2, presents current work by the 2006 recipients of the prestigious Traveling Scholarships awarded annually by the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (SMFA). The six prize-winning artists are Bill Durgin, Mathew Clay Freeman, Leslie Hall, Will Pappenheimer, Laurel Sparks, and Elizabeth H. Wallace. This year’s exhibition includes a variety of media—such as photography, installation, video, and painting—and features artists engaged in highly individual and clearly defined discourses. Since 1899, the SMFA has awarded Traveling Scholarships—travel grants that annually total $80,000 to $100,000—to select Museum School alumni and Fifth Year program students. As the independent juries that award Traveling Scholarships are guided exclusively by the quality of each artist’s submitted work, the resulting exhibition features a variety of traditional and experimental media that reflects the SMFA’s mission to nurture individual development. The cost for this 18+ exhibitions is $17 for general admission and $15 for students and seniors. Related Events: Artists’ Talk Wednesday, February 13, 6 pm Will Pappenheimer and Laurel Sparks discuss their work in the exhibition. Artists’ Talk Thursday, February 28, 11 am Bill Durgin, Mathew Clay Freeman, and Elizabeth H. Wallace discuss their work in the exhibition.

From Pulitzer Prize winner Samantha Power, comes an epic tale - part thriller, part tragedy - for our age, the political career and tragic death of the incomparable humanitarian Sergio Vieira de Mello. By taking the measure of this remarkable man's life and career, Power offers a fascinating answer to the question: Who possesses the moral authority, the political sense, and the military and economic heft to protect human life and bring peace to the unruly new world order?

The Politically Incorrect Comic has been spewing forth his rhetoric on stages from coast to coast and throughout Canada for over 17 years, delighting audiences with his high energy, fast-paced style even as he tears apart the core beliefs of the politically correct, the environmental extremists, the religious freaks and the animal rights activists. He has honed his craft to the point where he can attack these touchy subjects with killer humor and his disarming smile so that even those who adamantly disagree with him still roar with laughter.
