A Chinese American Vietnam War vet-turned-NYPD beat cop can't ignore the unsolved murder of an old woman in Chinatown in Ed Lin's noir novel, 'This is a Bust'. Set in the 1970s, 'This is a Bust' sheds light on the alienation and malaise not only of one man, but also an entire, nearly invisible generation.

San Diego's Louis XIV formed with much of the lineup as the rootsy, alt-rocking band Convoy, which issued an album called 'Black Licorice' in 2001. Vocalist/guitarists Jason Hill and Brian Karscig and drummer Mark Maigaard hooked up with bassist Jimmy Armbrust and began fleshing out Louis XIV, whose sound is built on irreverent, oversexed lyrics and songwriting that channels glam, scratchy punk and vintage Rolling Stones. What Made Milwaukee Famous is an indie-pop rock band based in Austin, TX.

Montreal-based journalist Taras Grescoe's book, 'Bottomfeeder: How to Eat Ethically in a World of Vanishing Seafood,' based on a nine-month investigation of the aquaculture industry, is both illuminating and frightening. Climate change, pollution and unregulated practices of fishing and fish farming industries could all have dire consequences for seafood and those who consume it.
