The American Composers Forum presents a "New Music Salon" featuring the East Coast Composers Ensemble (ECCE), a New England based group of young composers and performers. Based in Boston and directed by composer and pianist John Aylward, ECCE is focused on bringing never before heard music of exceptionally high quality into the canon of standard repertoire by performing premieres alongside a repertoire of established contemporary work. Aylward, now finishing his dissertation at Brandeis University, has collaborated with composers Nathan Shields and Wes Matthews and with Juilliard percussionist Alexander Lipowski to create the contemporary music ensemble. Violinist Emily Popham, cellist Victoria Bass, flutist Daria Binkowski, clarinetist Jeff Anderle and pianist Aaron Wunsch comprise the rest of ECCE. ECCE’s April program contains works by two of its member composers as well as by two Brazilian natives Jorge Grossman and Alexander Lunsqui. The concert will also feature a premiere by James Wiznerowicz, professor of Music Composition and Theory at Virginia Commonwealth University. The composers and performers of ECCE represent a variety of musical aesthetics from around the country which aptly reflects today’s eclectic environment of contemporary music. Aylward considers this diversity of thought ECCE’s strongest and most compelling feature which allows ECCE to connect with a variety of audiences. ECCE’s 2006-7 season concerts in New York, Boston and Sao Paulo have all reflected this sensitivity and eclecticism. The New Music Salon series creates a space for composers, performers, and audiences to meet, share new work, and build connections. Meet the composers in our midst and find out where music is heading tomorrow. Stay for post-show refreshments and meet the movers and shakers in DC's new music scene. ACF-DC has been sponsoring composer residencies with community groups and presenting new music in DC since 1997, and is always looking for new ways to break down barriers between artists, new music, and audiences. The Patricia M. Sitar Center for the Arts provides after-school arts education in music, dance, drama, creative writing, and visual arts to low-income youth in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, D.C.
