PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD TEST THEIR TRIVIA SKILLS NEW YORK/LONDON -- Who's better at trivia? The British? The Americans? The Canadians? We'll find out on Saturday April 14 2007 when top game show contestants and everyday people from around the world compete simultaneously in the first-ever Transatlantic Quiz. The two-hour written quiz taken by individuals will cover a mixture of pop culture and academic trivia. The event will match the most famous trivia player in the USA, Jeopardy mega-champ Ken Jennings, against the greatest player in Europe, World Quizzing Champion Kevin Ashman. "These two titans will be going head to head for the very first time," says co-organizer Paul Bailey. "It'll be very interesting to see how our best does against their best." The general public is invited to take part in the two-hour written test that will cover pop culture and academic trivia in the areas of culture, entertainment, history, lifestyle, media, sport, science, and world topics. Event sites and times can be found via links at www.transatlanticquiz.com – note that the test will be given live in the various locations and not on the web. Current venues include London, New York, Ottawa, Chicago, Jacksonville, Madison, and Boulder, with others being added in the weeks leading up to the test. The questions for the quiz have been balanced between the three competing countries and developed from the USA by Ray Hamel, reference librarian and crossword puzzle constructor, NY Times Trivia Master, and Quiz writer for "Pages" magazine. Questions from Canada have been developed by Paul Paquet, trivia writer through Triviahalloffame.com for clients such as Microsoft Encarta and MTV Europe, head writer for World Trivia Night, and a writer for merchandising of “1v100” and “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire”. The questions from the UK have been developed by Chris Jones, former civil servant and winner on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” who now works full-time for Quizzing.co.uk. The Transatlantic Quiz will also prepare players for the World Quizzing Championships, which take place June 2, 2007.

Artist Reception: March 7, 7-9pm We Americans have had a long history of First Ladies. In the near future this could possibly change, making Bansley’s installation, ‘The Wit of America’s First Ladies’ quite timely and provoking. Bansley’s installation is a gathering of past and present First Ladies in an enchanting setting in The Blue Room. . You are invited to become any of the 43 First Ladies. walk in their shoes and imagine there time spent as a President’s wife. You will experience emotions, such as fear, love, hate, and sorrow. Each table has a theme with First Ladies from different generations sharing a table and have something in common. For instance, Martha Washington, Anna Harrison, Margaret Taylor and Mamie Eisenhower were married to men who served in the military. Jackie Kennedy, Edith Roosevelt and Caroline Harrison had small children roaming the halls. Hand made paper graces each table in the form of table skirts, chargers, plates and napkins with indigo dye for many skirts and cyanotype for the portrait plates. Centerpieces reflect the theme at each table and the array of gold chairs screams the accent color. Barbara has received an MA in Interdisciplinary Art from Columbia College and a PBSC from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her artwork has been exhibited throughout the Chicago Area. Recent venues for ‘The Wit of America’s First Ladies’ have been: Hartmann Art Center, Bradley University, Peoria, IL, Glass Curtain Gallery, Columbia College, Chicago, Ridge Historical Society in Chicago, and the premier at Mother McAuley High School in Chicago.
