Rise Against

Where: The Boardwalk

Date: 2007-07-29 19:00:00

Type:

Chicago's Rise Against features former members of the late great 88 Fingers Louie. This four-piece punk unit plays a punchy brand of melodic hardcore heavily influenced by bands like Bad Religion, Minor Threat and Bad Brains. This band is a potent mix of youth crew style, metal edge, melodic energy and hardcore pride. Their message, though stated a thousand times before, comes off as neither cheesy nor insincere. Silverstein was formed in early 2000 in Ontario, Canada and acquired it's name after the famous children's author by the same name. The band thrived to tear down the boundaries between hardcore, emo and punk and with the addition of guitarist Neil Boshart, after founding guitarist Richard McWalter left the band, a myriad of new influences and ideas came in which is believed to have solidified and enhanced the band's developing trademark sound.

Mute Math

Where: The Boardwalk

Date: 2007-09-24 19:00:00

Type:

The Mute Math dynamic can be viewed in parts. At its core, an inspired electro-alt rock band with a soaring sound that incorporates emotive vocals, hip hop styled beats, dubby soundscapes fueled by sample-like guitars and Rhodes piano flourishes, keytars, a homemade instrument (a Theremin- inspired guitar) and other random gadgets. The other is a finely tuned live act, with a highly infectious and equally energetic show, that's accented by the occasional acrobatics, experimental jams, knob twiddling and bouts of instrumental switcheroo that emboldens the player's chops. That's good, because music fans are always looking for something new to excite and intrigue them, and that is executed well. Mute Math definitely deserves a look- they nail it on record, and they kill it live. These are the elements that help Mute Math click with the fans of old and new, on a daily basis. Hailing from Tyler, Texas, Eisley is made up of four siblings: guitarist/vocalist Sherri, vocalist/ keyboardist Stacy, guitarist Chauntelle and drummer Weston DuPree, as well as their longtime neighbor, bassist Jon Wilson. They play "dreamy, high-minded pop far more akin to Coldplay, Bjork and Radiohead than Jessica Simpson or Britney Spears."

Emery is a punk band from Seattle. In August, 2002, As Cities Burn was forged from the remnants of several local south Louisiana bands. The band quickly became known and recognized on the Baton Rouge scene for their passionate and energetic live show. Word about the band spread rampantly while As Cities Burn began to play shows throughout all of Louisiana, gaining an extremely loyal following. In October of 2002, the band released a five song EP selling over 1,000 copies. With new material and the further success of the band, As Cities Burn released their second EP in June of 2003, duplicating and surpassing the success of the first. With the addition of a new drummer, the summer of 2003 saw the completed band dropping out of college indefinitely. Each traded in their jobs and time with their girlfriends for a life in a van, in order to focus on spending as much time on the road as possible. Pierce The Veil plays punk hardcore rock music.

Bob Pejman Artist Show and Reception at American Visions Art...

Where: American Visions Art Gallery

Date: 2008-05-17 16:00:00

Type:

Art . Food . Wine Meet the Artist, Bob Pejman Saturday, May 5 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Please join us for this rare one-man show with Bob Pejman. He was happy to return, knowing he would see the many collectors he's grown to know in Northern California. Bob is the son of an operatic composer and a concert musician. He spent his early childhood in Vienna and moved to the U.S. in 1976. He began painting by the age of seven and although he pursued his art education through high school, and despite his art instructor's insistence that he should remain in art, Bob graduated Rutgers University in Business Management. But through all this and subsequent work as Gallery Director, he continued to paint and furthered his studies with important masters. His style is influenced by classical masters -- all of them sharing the attributes of technical mastery, form and perspective. But it is through his unique arrangement that he achieves his distinct style. He paintings portray beauty and solitude. Full Appetizer Buffet and a Wine Tasting by El Dorado Wineries Feel Free to Bring Some Friends. RSVPs appreciated but not required.
