On Monday, November 19th, S.O.B.’s Concerts Presents The Idan Raichel Project, live in concert. With an enchanting blend of Ethiopian and Middle Eastern flavors joined with sophisticated production techniques and a spectacular live show, the Idan Raichel Project has become one of the most unexpected success stories in world music today. After changing the face of Israeli popular music by offering a message of love and tolerance in a region of the world where the headlines are too often dominated by conflict, The Idan Raichel Project brings its peaceful music to the U.S. in our own time of social unrest. The Idan Raichel Project made headlines this year with its self-titled U.S. debut on Cumbancha Records. Since that time, Idan Raichel has gained steam, built its fan base, and garnered media attention from outlets like The New York Times, The Boston Globe and Billboard. After reaching these career milestones, The Idan Raichel Project is set to take on the U.S. market and where better to start than in the epicenter of Jewish culture, New York City. $38 Advance/$45 Day of; Available at Ticketmaster and S.O.B.’s Box Office—212-243-4940

Jolie Holland’s voice floats to us from the heavens, singing stories of the underworld. Holland’s songs rise and fall like heavy eyelids and convey the peace of that place between asleep and awake, creating a special place for you to be. There sounds from past and present-tense waltz together to a never-ending melody that flickers between folk, jazz, blues and pop. Holland’s lyrics conjure characters and situations one might find in the surrealistic celluloid of Jim Jarmusch. As with all good dreams, there is an anything-goes spirit leading the way. $12. also play apr 16 & 30

The Holiness of Relationship in Jewish Mystical Teachings Jewish traditions have developed a rich vocabulary for encountering the divine while simultaneously realizing the inter-connectedness of all life. This course will explore the world of relation in four dimensions: * teachings on friendship as a spiritual practice; * the role of Teacher or Mentor in spiritual growth; * the vocabulary of loving intimacy in the Song of Songs; and * discovering the face of the divine in all human beings — even adversaries. Study will be anchored in text drawn particularly from rabbinic, kabbalistic and hasidic sources, and in spiritual practices that you can “take home.”
