Show dates and on sale information provided below. Mark Lanegan rose to fame as singer for the much loved Seattle band Screaming Trees qnd Greg Dulli as the magnetic leader of the Afghan Whigs. Following the break up of both groups, Lanegan and Dulli went on to achieve significant notice on their own. Lanegan continued to release successful solo albums, as well as create vivid partnerships with the likes of Belle & Sebastian singer Isobel Campbell and Queens of the Stone Age. Dulli, meanwhile, innovatively fused indie, soul and electronic sounds in his post-Whigs ensemble the Twilight Singers, who released their first album, Twilight As Played By The Twilight Singers, in 2000; the most recent Twilight effort, 2006's Powder Burns, proved a crowning achievement, landing on many year-end best lists. The Gutter Twins was born out of a rumor told by Lanegan to a journalist after the two artists began collaborating together in various ways in 2002. What started as a rumor grew into an honest and raw record, and while Saturnalia brings together the driving forces behind '90s favorites, the record does not rest on the sonic laurels of these singer's previous successes. "I couldn't tell you what Saturnalia's theme is, but there's a seeking of transcendence that's new." Greg Dulli explains. Comix is proud to announce “Comix Spotlight,” a new comedy series focusing the spotlight on New York's original talent in all its myriad forms. The series will feature not only traditional stand up but also will also bring you sketch, musical, film, and character driven comedy. Performers will be established veterans of the comedy scene or the brightest emerging talent. This new show will debut on February 6th at 8:00 PM when Comix shines its spotlight on Eugene Mirman. Mirman has a recurring role on HBO’s Flight of the Conchords and has appeared on Comedy Central with his own half hour special. His other television credits include Conan O’Brien, MTV, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and his self-award nominated role of a gruff nun on Adult Swim’s animated Lucy series. Currently, Eugene is writing The Will to Whatevs, a humorous guide to life for Harper Collins. Mirman tours the US regularly often performing as part of Patton’s Oswalt’s Comedians of Comedy, as well as opening for rock n’ roll outfits such as Yo La Tengo, Modest Mouse, The Shins, Cake, and more. The original premise was to improvise (not 'illustrate') to films from the American Avante-Garde (50s-60s etc), an under-known period of American filmic poetics. Members of the group include Lee Ranaldo and Alan Licht (gtrs/devices), Christian Marclay and DJ Olive (turntables), William Hooker (drums/perc), Ulrich Krieger (sax/electronics), and most recently Tim Barnes (drums/perc).Various combinations of these players attend 'Text' gigs, depending on individual schedules, so the group takes on various permutations---sometimes all members participate, sometimes not. To date the group has performed with the following films: Brakhage's Text of Light, Dog Star Man, Anticipation of the Night, Songs; Harry Smith's Mahagonny outtakes, Oz-The Approach to the Emerald City, and Late Superimpositions. The group has headlined the Victoriaville Music Festival, Canada (2002); Three Rivers Film Festival, Pittsburgh; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and have done 2 tours of Europe to date, as well as performing in New York City and other USA club and cinema venues.
