Free music! this week: Fez Fatale Liven up your Wednesday evenings this summer with the PCPA free Music on Main Street series. This vibrant, outdoor concert series features local bands playing in the heart of downtown Portland’s cultural district. Each Wednesday from July 11 through August 29, the PCPA closes Main Street between SW Broadway and Park for an evening of great music that sure beats sitting in rush-hour traffic! Fez Fatale is a versatile ensemble that feels equally at home between loungy-jazz, driving rock, and singing rockabilly. The harmonies of Fez’s two singers, Sarah Tollefson and Michele Kosta, add just the right element to a fabulous summer evening. Tickets are not needed. It is recommended to arrive early if you would like to secure a seat, though there is plenty of standing room. In case of rain, shows will be in the Rotunda Lobby of Antionette Hatfield Hall (PCPA). Full service bar and food provided by Artbar.

Nanotechnology: New Science for Society and the Environment Cheap and clean energy. Reduced environmental pollution. Greater computing power. Solutions to world hunger and national security. Cures for devastating diseases such as cancer. All of these could result from nanotechnology, a promising new field involving the design and manipulation of matter at the molecular and atomic levels. But there are plenty of uncertainties about how nanomaterials might affect human health and the environment. Learn more about nanotechnology's potential benefits and how scientists are dealing with the risks. Dr. Jim Hutchison is professor of chemistry and the director of the University of Oregon Materials Science Institute. His research interests include preparation and study of nanoscale materials. His work has been instrumental in developing the UO's nation-leading program in "green" (environmentally-benign) organic chemistry.
