Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds

Where: Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre

Date: 2007-12-12 20:00:00

Singer/songwriter Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds captivates audiences with his beautifully emotional new album "Playlist." Edmonds says of the album, "These songs came from memories, and they helped shape who I am. They shaped my past and now they're shaping my future." He says that Playlist "is one of my favorite albums that I've done. It's familiar, but it's fresh. I want people to hear something they know as if they're hearing it for the first time." Several "Playlist" songs loom large for those who have loved popular music for the past three decades: "Wonderful Tonight" (Eric Clapton); "Shower the People" and "Fire and Rain" (James Taylor); "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" (Bob Dylan); "Please Come To Boston" (Dave Loggins); "Longer" (Dan Fogelberg); "Time in a Bottle" (Jim Croce), and "Diary" (Bread). While being respectful of the original versions, Edmonds brings his own touch, making the pieces immediately accessible acoustic soul music; old, cherished memories made new again. He also wrote two news songs "that can stand with anything else," he said. "They fit right in." Listen for "Not Going Nowhere" and "The Soldier Song." "Playlist" was a labor of love for Edmonds because these songs led to his love of music "When I was in the seventh grade, I went to church on Sunday, and I loved the music," he recalls about his childhood in Indianapolis. "When the sermon started, I would slip out and sit in the car listening to the AM pop station, and that's where I was introduced to James Taylor, Bread, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton. I was learning to play guitar. It was acoustic music, and it talked to me. I loved it."
