Magnet Theater is pleased to announce the inauguration of Her Majesty’s Stand-up, a series wherein, every other week, New York City's top comedians amuse and delight with sketches, short films and stand-up comedy. Magnet performers (and stand-ups) Jon Bander, Dan Gregor and Lucas Held are your hosts for our newest late night of ribaldry in the grand tradition of British fiddle faddle that will be sure to leave you chortling your knickers off. The premiere line-up includes: The Whitest Kids U Know (Fuse TV's New Premiere Sketch Troupe), John Mullaney (Late Night w/Conan O'Brien), Nick Kroll (Comedy Central Motherload's I Love the 30's), Rebecca Drysdale (Chicago's Second City, Variety's 10 Comics To Watch), and Baron Vaughn (Vh1's Best Week Ever), insuring we start the festivities with a bang (and a 21-gun salute). Her Majesty extends an invitation to you for this gala event! Tickets are $5 and can be reserved by calling the Magnet Theater at 212.244.8824, what!

For children (and their families) having their bar/bat mitzvah between September 2007 and June 2009. The B’nai Mitzvah Family Adventure (BMFA) seeks to rekindle the potency of the bar/bat mitzvah ritual as a rite of passage for adolescent Jews and their families. The program is not a practical Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparatory course but a spiritual journey for the entire family to develop a deeper, more personal relationship to Judaism. Through an intensive week of programs for both teens and parents, BMFA will foster a child’s spiritual maturation during a critical time of development while helping families grow together through the shared experience of Judaism. Teens will have the opportunity to: - Deepen their understanding of bar/bat mitzvah as a rite of passage and many of the traditional components of the ritual. - Explore their changing role(s) as they enter adolescence. - Challenge themselves to push beyond their comfort zones physically and emotionally, socially and spiritually as individuals and as a group. - Complete one or two creative projects that reflect their values through a Jewish lens. Adults will have the opportunity to: - Become familiar with the options available to them in designing the form and content of the ritual (when applicable). - Receive practical support in planning their ritual (where applicable). - Clarify their feelings around this developmental stage and explore how to best support their teen while making the experience meaningful for them (parents). - Have the opportunity to explore their changing role(s) as their children enter adolescence.

Free Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707) was one of the most influential musicians and composers of his generation. Musicians throughout Europe, including both Bach and Handel, traveled long distances to hear his music and to learn from him. Buxtehude made significant contributions to the spheres of vocal, chamber and instrumental music, yet he is most revered for his immense contribution to the organ repertoire. Buxtehude is probably the only pre-Bach composer whose music has the consistency, variety and drama to hold the attention of a modern audience throughout a series of ten recital programs. His brilliant and rhapsodic preludia and toccatas are characterized by a spontaneous, extroverted and improvisatory flair, whereas his chorales have an altogether more devotional, prayerful manner. In addition, Buxtehude composed a group of short fugal pieces for manuals only, without pedals, which are exquisite contrapuntal miniatures. To mark the 300th anniversary of the composer’s death, John Scott will perform Buxtehude’s works in ten recitals. Mr. Scott will perform on the Saint Thomas Taylor & Boody organ, built in 1996 and consisting of twenty-one stops over two manuals and pedals. The instrument is inspired by the tradition of organ building which was active in the Netherlands and North Germany in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. This magnificent organ is the perfect vehicle for Buxtehude’s works in New York City.
