TDC's powerful, passionate and elegant repertory reflects a distinctive Central American aesthetic with an expressive and exuberant style. "Infused by the passion of living, the Company gives soulful meaning to the term expression dance” (The Washington Post). With 1,000 teeth and a head permanently rotated toward the ground, Nigersaurus (“reptile from Niger”) vacuumed up plants 110 million years ago on Africa’s isolated island continent. Fending off predators of various kinds, this bizarre dinosaur lived to become one of the most commonherbivores of its day. Learn about this extreme fern mower of a dinosaur, and how it was reconstructed for a new National Geographic Museum exhibition, from its discoverer, the acclaimed paleontologist and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence PAUL SERENO. Adam Green

Where: Black Cat Washington, DC

Date: 2008-06-03 20:00:00

Type:

Employing a quirky feel set around acoustic-based indie arrangements, Adam Green has quickly become an underground sensation with his ironic and left-of-center approach to his songcraft. One half of the gritty indie-rock pair the Moldy Peaches, Green along with vocalist Kimya Dawson made their mark on the New York club scene in the late '90s with their rigid and trippy style, highlighted on their 2001 eponymous release. Deciding to go it alone in 2002, the singer/songwriter debuted his solo effort, 'Garfield,' utilizing a lo-fi anti-folk method on the cuts 'Computer Show' and 'Her Father and Her,' while setting an infectious pop tone for the number 'Dance With Me.' Wry, irreverent and playful, Adam Green is the eccentric maestro of the neo-folk movement. Dev Hynes, formerly of UK-based Test Icicles, is now the genial creative force behind Lightspeed Champion - whose sound is spare and semi-acoustic, with country-rock and folk-pop flourishes.
