Ken Andrews

Where: Double Door

Date: 2007-10-09 20:00:00

Type:

Ken Andrews is the former front man of Failure, Year of the Rabbit and The Replicants. Bear Claw formed in 2003 as a side project of another band that Rob, Scott and Rich were in while the guitarist Pete was away at art school in Italy. Rich came up with the idea because bass was his main instrument but he played guitar in Hello Operator. The idea wasn't taken seriously at first but the other two were open minded enough to try it anyways. After a few weeks of figuring out what the instruments should sound like, Bear Claw was born with the first song being 'Chameleon' in which Scott sang. With Bear Claw, there was an open mind to write something different without it feeling forced.

Sia (full name Sia Furler) hails from the famously laid-back Australian city of Adelaide. Boasting a powerful, soulful voice, she worked the Adelaide jazz circuit during the '90s as a vocalist for the band Crisp. Her big break came only after she followed in the footsteps of many other Aussie artists and hopped on a plane to the U.K. Sia landed a gig as a backup singer for Jamiroquai, which then led to appearances on tracks by Massive Attack, Zero 7 and William Orbit. Her full-length debut, 'Healing Is Difficult' boasted a splash on the UK chart with 'Drink to Get Drunk.' But her 2004 effort, 'Colour The Small One' has Sia out front and center on tracks like 'Sunday' and 'Breathe Me,' which was given massive exposure when it was used in the elaborate final scene of the HBO series 'Six Feet Under.' Sia is touring behind her latest, 'some people have REAL problems.'

As critics jostle for position to fling the perfect hyphenated descriptions of his mercurial sound (world-meets-folk-meets-trippy-meets-jazzy might be a good start), Mraz has set his sights on, as he puts it, "doing what I always do. Trying to win 'em over one fan at a time." Bushwalla is a San Diego-based musician whose music encompasses and embraces a multitude of styles and emotions, ranging from a beautiful acoustic soul, to a dirty rock -- all with with roots of hip hop oriented groove music.
