Admission to the museum is just $1 in celebration of Memorial Day. Guests will find plenty for the whole family to enjoy, including the museum’s first major Native American jewelry exhibition and an interactive Concord stagecoach. Totems to Turquoise: Native North American Jewelry Arts of the Northwest and Southwest, organized by the American Museum of Natural History, explores jewelry and adornment in two cultural regions of North America—the Northwest Coast and the desert Southwest—and features a stunning array of nearly 500 pieces of historic and contemporary jewelry and artifacts crafted by Haida, Kwakwaka’wakw, Tsimshian, Apache, Navajo, Zuni, Santo Domingo and Hopi artists. In the museum’s Discovery Junction at the Nina Mason Pulliam Education Center visitors can don period Western wear and climb aboard a Concord stagecoach for a “journey” to Deadwood, Dakota Territory . And kids can try their hands at fun art projects, including making handprint flowers and mosaic pendants. Parents and grandparents should stop by a museum admissions desk and grab a free Family Adventures Pack to make their visit fun for the whole family. The Eiteljorg Museum , located in downtown Indianapolis ’s White River State Park , is the only Midwestern museum that explores both Western and Native American art, history and cultures. In addition to the Totems special exhibition and the stagecoach, the museum boasts a world-class collection of traditional and contemporary art, and galleries highlighting Native cultures from Indiana and coast to coast.
