Exhibit: From the Ground Up XXIII

From the Ground Up XXIII Juried Regional Ceramics Exhibition will be on display at the Las Cruces Museum of Art Friday, May 4 Saturday, June 30. The annual event is sponsored by the Las Cruces Potters Guild and the Museum of Art. An opening reception for the artists will be held on Friday, May 4 from 5 7 p.m. Juror Miranda Howe will present awards and give a gallery talk. Ceramic works by 25 artists representing five states in the Rocky Mountain Region make up the exhibition. They range from utilitarian ceramics to ceramic sculpture and installation works. Included are pieces by Liz Fisher, Klyf Brown, Suzanne Kane, and Joe Krasean of Las Cruces, NM; Ben Brooks and Geneva Bailey of Roswell, NM; Kari Rives, Heidi Loewen and Judy Nelson Moore of Santa Fe, NM; Lia Rosen of Albuquerque, NM; Saundra Reynolds of Clovis, NM; Mary Holmes of Belen, NM; and George Rodriguez of El Paso, TX. The exhibit also includes works by artists from other areas of Texas, Colorado, Idaho and Utah. Miranda Howe, visiting faculty of the Art Department at New Mexico State University, will conduct an all-day ceramics workshop on Slab Construction and Surface Techniques on Saturday, May 5 at the Museum beginning at 9 a.m. The cost is $30 for Potters Guild members; $45, non-members; and $20, students. Exhibit: NMSU BFA Exhibit

The Las Cruces Museum of Art is one of three sites for an exhibition by graduating artists from the BFA program at New Mexico State University. Artworks will be on display in the Main Gallery of the Museum of Art Friday May 11 through Saturday, May 19. An opening reception for the artists will be held on May 11 from 5 7 p.m. All exhibits and receptions at the Museum, located at 491 N. Main St. in the downtown mall, are accessible and free to the public. Additional locations for the BFA show are the Branigan Cultural Center, 501 N Main St., and White Raven Studios, 425 W. Griggs. Media on display will include painting, graphic design, ceramics, metals and jewelry, sculpture, photography and mixed media. Artworks by 28 BFA candidates will be on display at the three exhibition sites.
