Renaissance Island Music presents An Evening with Loren Davidson and Friends, a musical journey and tropical party, on Saturday October 6 at 8 PM, at Mission City Coffee Roasters, 2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara CA. Escape from your stress and enjoy this Cure for the Common Cubicle. Admission $10. Compared to artists like Jimmy Buffett, John Prine, and Dan Fogelberg, “Escape Artist” Loren Davidson’s musical art will encourage you to escape from whatever’s been stressing you – jobs, traffic, cold weather. He is known all around the Bay Area for creating music that makes the listener feel as if the palms are swaying, the tropical breezes are filled with the scent of mangos and coconuts, and the cares of the world have melted away. His songs of love, life, interesting people and warm places are part Mardi Gras and part mini-vacation. Joining Loren for this one of a kind musical party: “Gypsy” Jack Van Breen has been an active participent in the local music scene for longer than many area residents have been breathing. But that doesn't prevent him from an amazing amount of musical enthusiasm that provides the color and flame to The Silicon Valley Houserockers sound. His musical experiences range from 20's rag time to Monster Metal, with double stops at many places in between. Kathleen Nelson’s styles on piano encompass classical, jazz, Broadway, Reggae, gospel, opera and pop. She made her European debut in 1996 in Vienna and has recorded a cd of classical piano pieces, “Invitation.” After nine years absence, she has returned to music, reinventing herself as a singer/songwriter. Individually and together, these talented individuals will weave a musical tapestry that will take you to far-away lands and to places as familiar as your own heart, and help you have a whole lotta fun doing it.

Computer chips are everywhere--powering the Internet, controlling cars, automating factories, enhancing cell phones, and enriching home entertainment. A new program at the Intel Museum helps children learn about computer chip science while completing fun, hands-on activities during a free summer drop-in program. Participants will decode a message, explore the inside of a laptop, make a musical greeting card, and more. Each week of a four-week session offers a different theme: * Code and Conductivity--Learn how computers "talk" while decoding a secret message written in binary code, then test your knowledge by programming a robot. * Sensational Circuits--Build working circuits and discover that a computer chip the size of a fingernail contains millions of circuits. * Keeping It Clean--Find out why tiny dust particles are not welcome in a fabrication facility, and conduct an experiment to count particles in the air. * Fabulous Fabs--Explore the magic of UV light. Each program lasts about 45 minutes. Participants can drop in at the museum on Tuesday or Thursday between 10 am to 5 pm on any of the program dates. Aug. 7-30 Code and Conductivity: Aug. 7 or 9 Sensational Circuits: Aug. 14 or 16 Keeping It Clean: Aug. 21 or 23 Fabulous Fab: Aug. 28 or 30 Each program includes guided and self-paced activities. All participants must be accompanied by an adult who remains in the museum during the program. Attend one program each week in July or August and receive a prize! MENTION THIS AD DURING YOUR VISIT AND RECEIVE A GIFT! New exhibits offer unique interaction with technology. A globe displaying real-time weather patterns, "binary rain" that falls into your hand, and the option to "get digitized" are just a few of the exciting new exhibit features that create a digital world at the Intel Museum. The exhibits take you from a rural classroom in South Africa to an online social networking environment. Along the way, you will experience exciting advanced silicon technologies while learning how Intel is helping to connect the next billion people to a world of opportunity through technology. New exhibits complement museum favorites, including the Intel History Timeline, Life in the Fab, Designing Chips, and the Robert Noyce exhibit. A visit starts at the Welcome exhibit, which features audio recollections of Intel as a startup and a snapshot of the company as the world's largest semiconductor chip maker, based on revenue. Take a tour or explore on your own. Docent and self-guided tours are available for school-age children as well as adults. In addition to tours, museum maps in multiple languages provide a quick synopsis of each exhibit. Admission and parking are free. Saturday science for kids.
