The life and music of jazz great Chet Baker is the subject of this poignant, fascinating documentary by noted photographer Bruce Weber. Interviews with family and friends, clips from his television appearances, and Baker's short-lived movie career in the 1950s, are splendidly intercut with rare recording sessions. The scenes of Baker’s later years are heartbreakingly sad as the ravages of drug addiction have taken its toll on this legendary trumpeter. Unseen for 14 years, this is a new 35mm restoration for its 20th anniversary! FRI-THU JANUARY 18-24 Let’s Get Lost F, M, Tu, Th: 7p, 9:25p Sa, Su, W: (2p), 4:30p, 7p, 9:25p

Guy Blakeslee is the brainchild behind the kitschy rock sound of Entrance. Blending threads of glam like T. Rex with Big Star/Cheap Trick-styled pop hooks, Entrance offers something more tangible compared to Blakeslee's days spent working with the Convocation Of in Baltimore. Mariee Sioux cites influences ranging from Van Morrison, Kate Wolf and Joni Mitchell into a expressive, personal sound.

Over the past three decades, Robyn Hitchcock has built a large and distinctive body of work that's established him as one of rock's most respected and beloved iconoclasts. The prolific English singer/songwriter/guitarist's vivid surrealist songcraft has won him an uncommonly devoted international fan base, and created an ongoing demand for rare and unreleased Hitchcock material.

Though barely known in the US, Philippe Garrel is widely considered a filmmaking genius and "the Rimbaud of French cinema." We present two of his most intense films, both in new 35mm prints. J’entends plus la guitare is a dramatized version of his traumatic love affair with his muse, musician Nico, made three years after her death. And, Le lit de la vierge, a minimalist-psychedelic retelling of the Christ story, shot in Brittany, Morocco, and Rome under the influence of LSD. As a companion screening, we present Andy Warhol’s raw The Velvet Underground and Nico: A Symphony of Sound, live at the Factory in 1966. When: J’entends plus la guitar (I don’t hear the guitar anymore): 7:30 pm Thursday, May 15 & Friday, May 16 Le lit de la vierge (The virgin’s bed): 7:30 pm Sunday, May 18 The Velvet Underground and Nico: A Symphony of Sound: 9:30 pm Thursday, May 15 & Friday, May 16 Public Info: 415-978-2787 or ybca.org $8 regular; $6 students, seniors, teachers & YBCA members
