About the TalkWe haven't got all day to talk about accessibility. In fact, we've only got an hour or so after work on a Monday before everyone hits the bar. So at this month's Refresh, Matt will give three mini-talks, each covering a different facet of accessible technology: Once more from the topIf you have only 15 minutes to tell your team about accessibility, how do you make the most of that time? This talk will cover the absolute basics—what every web professional should know about accessibility. The future of web accessibilityBut what about Ajax and Flash? They're fun. We like 'em. Web video, too. So what's the news on making them accessible? Matt will cover where accessibility for modern interfaces is now, and where it's going. Accessibility hacksFun with assistive technology! We'll look at the tools that come with your operating system, and other freely available utilities, that just might make any user more productive. You don't have to buy a $1300 screen reader just to have a good time. (Note: Matt's idea of a good time will also be examined.) About the SpeakerMatt May is a developer, technologist, and accessibility advocate who is responsible for working internally and externally with Adobe product teams and customers to address accessibility in Adobe products, ensure interoperability with assistive technologies, and make customers aware of the many accessibility features that already exist in Adobe products. Prior to joining Adobe, Matt worked for W3C/WAI on many of the core standards in web accessibility, led the Web Standards Project's Accessibility Task Force, helped to architect one of the first online grocery sites, HomeGrocer.com, and co-founded Blue Flavor, a respected web and mobile design consultancy. Matt is an accomplished speaker, having presented at dozens of conferences including Web 2.0 Expo, WebVisions, SXSW Interactive, CSUN Conference on Technology and Persons with Disabilities, Podcast and Portable Media Expo, Web Design World Seattle, Gilbane CMS Conference, and the International World Wide Web Conference, to name just a few. After the TalkDon't forget that we all head over to the BalMar for food and drinks after every Refresh Seattle talk. Hope to see you there!

Hot on the heels of a mighty May that saw their second release Roses & Clover (Brushfire Records),greeted with critical acclaim, and a sold-out tour throughout the U.S., ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra) is riding high on a wave of success toward the High Sierra Music Festival in Quincy, CA, July 8th. In stores just a month, "Roses & Clover" has critics raving about ALO's gift for crafting sparkling tunes to score the perfect summer road trip, or perhaps, the ultimate soundtrack for staying home enjoying a summer of love. "Their music is one of the most natural aphrodisiacs accessible to human kind," exclaims JazzReview.com. While Hybrid Magazine declares, "The songs are irresistibly catchy and phrased with soothing esthetics that feel like a tropical drink quenching your palate." So with a natural aphrodisiac that soothingly quenches the palate, Relix Magazine playfully sums up the possible effects -- "If 'Roses & Clover' doesn't turn ALO into a national attraction, it will certainly help a handful of college kids get laid along the way." ALO's lives shows have proven to be just as seductive to not just the ears, but feet of music fans. According to the Philadelphia Daily News, the masterful collective will "free your mind and move your feet with substantial songcraft." The Boston Herald drolly fesses that the abundance of breezy, acoustic jams "would be overkill if not for ALO's way with a melody and knack for pop hooks." Though great songs need a great band to rock the house and give audiences a magical experience. So as the Chicago Sun-Times affirms, "the overall level of musicianship is superb," clearly ALO has that covered. ALO will be playing at several music festivals and other shows this summer.

Hailing from Orange County, CA, (hed)pe fuse the local sounds of the area punk revival scene with G-funk-inflected hip-hop, a sound the band tagged "G-punk." The group's re-vitalized lineup currently includes vocalist Jared, guitarist Jaxson, bassist Mawk, drummer Devin and DJ Product 1969 (turntables/samples). (hed)pe has been described by Rolling Stone as "the one rare metal act willing to admit that good times actually exist."

Kamui have been causing chaos in the record box of many a DJ for the past few years with their ever diverse fusion of tech trance and hard trance. More shockingly however, is that the duo (Dominik Felsmann and Patrick Scheidt) have only just left their teens and have a string of releases on labels and a multitude of experience many producers would have taken years to acquire.

His psychological horror story, 'Seaton's Aunt,' will be read by ACT Theatre's Kurt Beattie. An evening especially designed and tailored for us lucky devils. Ann will be appearing in Seattle with her "Pretty Songs" producer Kristian Hoffman as musical director along with a full band, serving up a piping hot, six-course meal of esoterica past, present and future! Some know her as the front woman of the psycho-psychedelic band BONGWATER. Others know her as David Bowie's first victim in "The Hunger". Or the sly cigarette girl from "Desperately Seeking Susan". Or the harried publicist in love with a robot in "Making Mr. Right". Or the crazed magazine editrix from the Nineties ABC-TV sitcom "Anything But Love". Or the lead singer of the heavy metal band "Vulcan Death Grip". Or from her Rube Goldberg-esque one-woman shows "You Could Be Home Now" and "Rave Mom". Or the naive FBI secretary whose neck gets broken in the Harrison Ford blockbuster "Clear and Present Danger". Or her baroque musical-theater-on-acid concept albums "The Luv Show" and "Pretty Songs & Ugly Stories". Or the mysterious and slightly nefarious real estate agent who sells Jodie Foster a "Panic Room". Or as the performance artist who once sang for five hours in the Whitney Museum elevator in "A Tribute to Muzak". Combine them all and you have one busy lady. Armed with a wickedly sharp mind and a damn fine sense of humor, Ann Magnuson puts her diverse career on hold this summer in order to give Seattle one hell of a show... Ann Magnuson actress, singer, writer and performance artist has performed at REDCAT, The Whitney Museum, MoMA, Lincoln Center, The Public Theater, BAM, P.S. 1, P.S. 122 and Joe's Pub and in theaters and cabarets all across the country (as well as in the U.K., Europe, Japan and even The Arctic Circle!) and our little fishing village, Seattle in 1991 in The Swedish Housewife's production for CoCa's, CoCa Cabana. Ann was part of the art and music scene in NYC during the 1980s when she managed the neo-Dada cabaret space Club 57 and directed the infamous New Wave Vaudeville Show (which featured the debut of New Wave legend Klaus Nomi, well documented in the film "The Nomi Song"). While in New York she created a kaleidoscopic array of comic characters and fronted a variety of bands performing in galleries, museums and now-infamous Manhattan clubs such as The Mudd Club, Area and Danceteria. Her video "Made For TV" (made with video artist Tom Rubnitz) premiered on the PBS series "Alive From Off Center" and is featured in NYU's traveling "Downtown" show as well as in the New Museum's East Village U.S.A. exhibit. In addition to her many one-woman shows, Ann's Off Broadway credits include Four Dogs And A Bone and The Vagina Monologues as well as starring in the LA premiere of the David and Amy Sedaris play The Book Of Liz. She has appeared in over 30 films portraying both comic and serious roles and has written for magazines as diverse as Art Forum, BUST, Conde Nast TRAVELER and VOGUE. Her monthly column for PAPER magazine also appears as a blog at www.papermag.com She released five albums with the band BONGWATER (as lyricist, songwriter and lead singer). Her first solo album "The Luv Show" was released in 1995 by Geffen Records and her latest album, "Pretty Songs & Ugly Stories", is currently distributed by Asphodel Records (www.asphodel.com). door at 5:30PM show at 7:30PM Tickets: $22 advance $25 day of show Rated R meaning 17+ 206-838-4333 http://www.tripledoor.com/tickets.
