Former Black Flag frontman Henry Rollins is also revered for his writings, along with his popular "talking" shows. From Siberia to war-ravaged Iraq to the smog of Los Angeles, Henry Rollins has seen the world from the stage and from ground-level. Henry laughs at himself, suffers no fools, and marvels at the road that he's traveled.

THE TAROT FOR WRITERS WORKSHOP Over the course of four Thursdays in May, you can experience a mystical journey into the world of writing with tarot cards. You’ll learn how tarot cards can help you break through writer’s block, serve as a source of creative inspiration, help you with plotting and dialogue, and glean insights into your characters’ past, present, and future. IN BRIEF: • The Tarot for Writers Workshop will meet weekly for four weeks in May, starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10. • Registration is $40. • To register, visit http://writers.meetup.com/653/ TAROT CARDS: A NEW TOOL FOR WRITERS While the tarot is usually the domain of mystics and seers, the cards are equally at home in the hands of a writer. That’s because writers are, in a sense, fortunetellers. They envision a possible future, and they describe it so clearly that it flickers into existence. They see the shadows of an alternate reality, and they bring it to light with the power of their words. Like the ancient seers at the Oracle of Delphi, writers communicate essential truths to an audience of readers. And good writers, like good tarot card readers, seamlessly weave together the past, present, and future. When you come to the workshop, you’ll need a notebook, a pen, and a standard deck of Rider-Waite tarot cards. If you don’t have a deck of your own, you can borrow one during each session. WORKSHOP SCHEDULE WEEK ONE: Characters and Cards 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10 During our first session together, we’ll cover the basics of working with the tarot, and we’ll play with some fun ways to develop characters based on the cards. WEEK TWO: Setting the Scene 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17 We’ll build on our character development by working on some fun dialogue techniques. We’ll also move forward into description and scene-setting through guided meditation and pen-and-paper interviews. WEEK THREE: Crisis and Conflict 7 p.m. Thursday, May 24 During our third session, we’ll carry on with our characters, conversations, and descriptive work from the weeks before -- and we’ll move forward into our creative journey by finding crisis and conflict in the cards. WEEK FOUR: Happy Endings 7 p.m. Thursday, May 31 During our fourth and final Tarot for Writers Workshop session, we’ll work on finding resolutions and endings in the cards, and discover how the tarot can help us assess our work, prepare for publication, and keep writing.
