Is Open Source like gravity, which, once proposed, needs no further explanation or support, safe from the meddling of industry and politics? Or is Open Source like science, a broad, multi-disciplinary field so powerful in its ability to explain natural phenomenon and so valuable to those who can use it as a tool that it must be constantly policed in order to remain powerful and valuable? The OSI has attempted to both define and promote Open Source, and while the members of the OSI have been drawn from the Open Source community, it would be a stretch to say that the OSI truly /represents/ the Open Source community. In this session, we will use the Design Thinking process to (1) Define the problem we're trying to solve, (2) discuss the Research we have done, (3) Ideate (aka brainstorm) possible ways to design a new OSI that can best address the problem we've defined, and (4) Prototype solutions. After publishing all this, we will (5) choose a best approach, (6) implement the choice, (7) learn from our experience, and then, perhaps, do it again. If you want to have a role in defining the future of the OSI, this is a session you will not want to miss!
