'Bianca E Falliero' is replete with the rhythmic propulsion and florid coloratura singing that mark all of Rossini's 39 operas. The plot turns on the ill-fated love between Bianca and the warrior Falliero, thwarted by her father who insists that his daughter make a more politically and financially advantageous match with Cappellio. In an unusual twist, the dilemma is solved at a traumatic public trial-inspiring a quartet that to Stendhal was one of Rossini's finest pieces-and leads to a happy resolution of the lovers' quandary.

Three timeless film stars are presented at their campy best when Divas Outdoors comes to Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens on May 31, June 7, and June 13. Presented by Hillwood, One In Ten, Acuvue Contact Lenses, and Metro Weekly, Divas Outdoors will feature Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and Joan Crawford in a film series presented over three nights on Hillwood’s lush Lunar Lawn. Scrumptious picnic spreads across the lawn will be judged by local culinary celebs in contests each night. Straight Eights, the Baltimore-Washington chapter of Lambda Car Club International, will display a selection of antique period cars on the Motor Court. The series will culminate with a Joan Crawford look-alike contest on June 13. WHEN: May 31, June 7, June 13 Gates open at 6 p.m., with activities beginning at 7:30, and the films starting at sundown. Hillwood’s mansion and gardens will be open for evening-time strolls and viewing.
