Java and Jazz June 2007 The arts come together during Comerica Java & Jazz…a coffee house series. Detroit has long been known as a great jazz town. When you add the exciting art of spoken word into the mix, you have the Detroit Public Library’s 2007 Comerica Java and Jazz series. Celebrating its seventh season, Comerica Java & Jazz continues the tradition of providing a monthly after-work concert series that showcases some of Detroit’s finest creative talent. The June 2007 concert is a special Saturday performance during the 21st Annual Detroit Festival of the Arts and features Mia Johnson, Jamaal “Versiz” May and Alexander Zonjic & Friends. Mia Johnson has a voice reminiscent of greats like Gladys Knight and Angela Bofill. She is known for her standout performances at Detroit’s casinos and jazz clubs. We are pleased to have her grace the stage at the Detroit Public Library for the Comerica Java & Jazz series. Jamaal “Versiz” May came onto the Detroit Poetry Slam scene and two months later beat out 34 Metro Detroit area poets to become Detroit’s Grand Slam Champion. Versiz has performed his poetry to critical acclaim throughout the U.S. Alexander Zonjic & Friends perpetually transport enchanted listeners to an amazing musical scene through their playing. Immediately recognized by the artistry and brilliance of his sound, Zonjic creates music that is remembered for its originality, vital energy and sheer beauty. Whether he is performing a Mozart concerto or constructing a soulful jazz blues rhapsody, the sound resonates with Zonjic’s own unique magic. Join us at the Main Library on the Woodward Avenue lawn when Comerica’s Java & Jazz moves the concert outside as a part of the 21st Annual Detroit Festival of the Arts taking place in the Cultural Center. Performances are free and open to the public at 4:00pm. For more information, please call 313-833-4042 or visit our website at www.detroitpubliclibrary.org. WALKING WITH DINOSAURS-The Live Experience

Where: Cobo Arena

Date: 2007-11-18 13:00:00

Type:

For 200 million years the dinosaurs ruled the earth. Now they’re back to roam the arenas of America in an extraordinary new theatrical production. WALKING WITH DINOSAURS – The Live Experience is brought to North America by Immersion Edutainment, headed by Bruce Mactaggart. Mactaggart said, “The BBC Series was a brilliant blend of special effects, escapism, excitement and information. Our show has that -- and it’s live. In this show, fifteen roaring, snarling “live” dinosaurs mesmerize the audience – and are as awe-inspiring as when they first walked on earth. This is a show that could only fit in arenas – as the creatures are so absolutely immense in size. It is the closest you’ll ever get to experiencing what it was like when they walked and ruled the earth.” WALKING WITH DINOSAURS – The Live Experience comes to Detroit’s legendary Cobo Arena for seven performances only Wednesday, Nov. 14-Sunday, Nov. 18. Tickets ($38.50, $48.50, $58.50 & $72.50) go on sale Friday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. and may be purchased at OlympiaEntertainment.com, the Joe Louis Arena and Fox Theatre box offices, Hockeytown Authentics in Troy (without service charge) and at all Ticketmaster locations, including Macy’s and Ticketmaster.com. To charge tickets by phone, call (248) 645-6666. For groups, please call (313) 471-3099. For additional information, call (313) 471-6611.
