Rae Louise Hayward, a beloved member of the East Bay arts community died on January 3, 2008. Ms. Hayward co-founded "The Art of Living Black," an event and venue held annually during Black History Month for African American artists at the Richmond Arts Center. "This exhibit, though planned before her passing, is also in memoriam to a great friend and artist, Rae Louise Hayward. Her work is beautiful...but she created a more wondrous thing in 'The Art of Living Black', an event that has grown and brought in a growing number of artists of African descent who will live, along with their progeny, here in America, forever. She is sorely missed..." said TheArthur Wright. This exhibit showcases thoughtful, bold, colorful, expressive works of three artists whose very different techniques are inextricably linked by their heritage and shaped by their individual experiences in the African Diaspora. Free.

Matrix Partners Philosophy We emphasize quality, rather than quantity, in making investment decisions. We maintain a high ratio of partners to capital deployed, allowing us to devote the necessary amount of partnership resources to each investment. Therefore, we do not spread our time and capital across less important relationships just to "put more money to work". We are unique in that we always serve on the boards of our portfolio companies. We prefer to bet on ourselves and the teams we back, rather than on other venture firms. We have built a diverse experience base among the general partners of Matrix to achieve a unique combination of significant operating and industry talent. We have worked successfully together for many years, differentiating us from many partnerships that were formed hastily to invest in the Internet. We have the ability to guide our companies through the challenges of each stage of the life cycle, since we have vast experience with all aspects of the growth process. It is our goal to support and help you build your company into a leader in its market - not to operate your company. We have an exceedingly large network of contacts to help you recruit industry leaders to the board of directors and to help you recruit your team - from the core engineering team to senior management. Furthermore, we offer strategic and operating guidance and advice on the most appropriate financing strategies. In blending our unique skills with your talent and vision, it is our commitment to ensure that you achieve the optimum level of success. Strategy Our investment strategy is to invest in companies that we perceive to be on the cutting edge of creating major new markets in software, communications equipment, semiconductors, storage, Internet and wireless. We have a presence in the two major technology centers of the United States - Boston and Silicon Valley. These locations give us the advantage to compare trends and analyze competition to supply you with the "big picture" of market potential. Our bi-coastal presence also gives us the ability to extend our network to capture talent throughout the country. We also have developed a broad list of industry contacts in both areas that can be very helpful in assessing a new idea or "opening doors" once your company is up and running. We approach each investment with a long-term commitment, since our goal is to build successful, independent companies - not acquisition targets. Matrix invests $10+ million over multiple rounds, with an initial investment ranging from seed amounts of $100,000-$300,000 to early-stage rounds of up to $10 million. Chris Kelly Chris Kelly, an Associate in the Silicon Valley office, joined Matrix Partners in 2007. He focuses on early-stage Internet and mobile companies. Chris previously worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Co., where he served media and telecom clients on various strategic, financial, and operational issues. Prior to McKinsey, Chris co-founded multiple web startups, including an online college textbook market and a same-day delivery service for consumer goods. Chris graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Finance and Economics.
