A play about hats and how they play a part in the African American community - especially the church! Crowns written by Regina Taylor, was inspired by a coffee table book, written by Craig Marberry and illustrated by photographer Michael Cunningham. Taylor’s play centers around Yolanda, a young and proud woman from Brooklyn, New York who after her brother is killed gets sent to South Carolina to live with Mother Shaw, her grandmother. In South Carolina, she is warmly welcomed into a circle of women and their hats. Through the exquisite variety of the hats, the characters use them to tell tales concerning everything from the etiquette of hats to their historical and contemporary social functioning. Through the history, music and aesthetics imported by her elders, Yolanda discovers and embraces hats and their cultural significance as a part of her own fiercely independent identity.

The definition of HipHop could be described as intelligent action. To be "hip" is to be in the know, ahead of the crowd. The "hop" is a movement best explained by getting up and doing it. So make the smart move and peep this show! EugeneIV Eugene IV is powerful combination of explosive music and positive messages of empowerment, responsibility and redemption. "I know, and have known since well before adulthood, that I've been called to make music that cries for social change. As the child of parents who were directly involved in the Civil Rights Movement, I feel it's in my blood to, at the very least, speak out against injustice." - Eugene comments. www.eugeneiv.com Aloe Blacc Aloe Blacc has evolved into a true Renaissance man dubbed the indie R. Kelly by online retailer Turntable Lab. Recordings like his Latin cover of John Legends Ordinary People prove that not only can this multi-instrumentalist produce, rap and sing but he can flip it in Spanish, too. With an amazingly broad set of influences ranging widely from the acoustic guitar stylings of folk artist Cat Stevens, to the soul-stirring sounds of the Negro Spirituals, Aloe prides himself on the spectrum of his musical roots. His sound often forays into the digital R&B realm, but always grooves with a tinge of Latin and the pulse of hip-hop. www.aloeblacc.com Opening set from Dillion (Arc The Finger).
