Brooklyn By Hand announces The Lolita Party at The Glasslands Gallery Friday, the 13th of April. The Lolita Party continues showcasing local bands with vigor and verve while offering a cheap set of beer goggles to make cute girls and boys yet cuter, and ugly ones doable. This month’s lineup features Eskimobot. Dance-worthy synth pop is fused with energetic indie/electronic and long-legged allure from this mostly girl musical ménage-a-quatre. Fresh from their Lower East Side residency at Pianos, the group returns to Brooklyn to unleash catchy and haunting vocals in exchange for sweat and smiles. Making their Lolita debut is Gutz. In a world rife with Prada sweaters and bum chic comes three moderately not-ugly white guys and one, who uncannily resembles Barry Gibb, to bring the symphonic gut-boogie to the over privileged youth of the outer boroughs. They like trannies. They like themselves, immensely. And their songs are catchier than cold sores. Pussi Stout’s full-throttle electronic and noise rock is delivered with garish showmanship. Think Weekend at Bernie’s meets LCD Soundsystem. Something along the lines of what it might sound like if a German tourist came to Brooklyn and threw a party in his florescent pink fanny pack. It’s body shot noise rock with a labyrinthine texture. You will sweat. You will be entertained. Spinning at Lolita and featured in magazines such as URB, Flavorpill and (The Lolita Party’s favorite) Seventeen, The Syrup Girls are known as “New York nightlife's best-kept secret". Super cute tag-team DJ duo Star Eyes and Siren provide the alternative to your average drum and bass. Mixing it up with two-step, breakbeat and new wave, these beauties bring their worldwide turntable skills to Brooklyn. Also featured are We Are Scientist’s favorite femme fatale DJs, The Dudettes, kicking the tires and lighting the fires to get the party going, spinning hip and limb loosening anthems in between sets. And, dropping a booty shaking hodge podge of indie dance, punk, mod, hip hop and skating rink is local lovely Tbones, listing among her myriad of sins spinning for Vice Magazine and opening for a slew of underground indie all-stars. A mere $6 dollar cover gets you in the door and sexy Zach Bot pours $3 beers down your throat all night. The Glasslands Gallery is located at 289 Kent Ave (btw South 1st and South 2nd). Take the L Train to Bedford Ave or the JMZ to Marcy. Doors at 9PM.

The sound of El Michel's Affair, a seven member instrumental ensemble is described as a set of "cinematic soul, vampy numbers with quick changes in tempo and mood." Opening for the likes of Mos Def and playing regularly as the back up band for Raekwon, the members of this Brooklyn based ensemble are also the founders of Truth & Soul Records. They carry an easygoing style that's as much 70s jazz as it is 60s funk, tunes that allow more room for instrumental interplay, unusual rhythm and instrumental flair, echoing the 70's soundtracks, Latin albums and funky 45s that sparked the initial inspiration. The Budos Band has erupted onto the Funk and Soul scene with a malicious sound that all but commands you to burn down the dance floor. This eleven piece group offers up nasty cuts of cosmic afro-influenced psychedelic funk that haunt your head long after the music stops. Admission $12 advanced /$15 day of show Advance tickets available at ticketweb.com & at Halcyon // 57 Pearl St. at the corner of Water & Pearl Sts. in Dumbo, Brooklyn Sponsored by Wax Poetics www.truthandsoulrecords.com www.myspace.com/budosband

Burnt Sugar, described by the Village Voice as “electric Miles with soul, Maggot Brain with a PHD, the Hendrix Evans band of dreams, the underwater funk some hear in A.R. Kane,” was conceived as the contemporary version of the Miles Davis Bitches Brew Band, exploring the connecting tissue binding jazz, rock, funk, twentieth century composition, and African music in a lyrical, improvisational manner. The Landau Orchestra combines acoustic brass, piano, strings, wind instruments and electronics to recreate a melodic mix of jazz, classical music and modern electronic production. Other Passengers first emerged on the underground NYC music scene in March 2004 and quickly grabbed attention with their moody and dramatic sound: at times loud and jarring and in an instant moving to the realm of eerie and ethereal space creating a collage of post-punk psychedelia that reflects the dichotomy of the city: isolation among millions. They released their debut EP, Is It Nothing to You, All Those Who Pass By? in October 2004. This is the official record release party for their full-length, "We Are All". http://otherpassengers.com http://myspace.com/otherpassengers

Hot Buttered Rum Often described as a rock band playing bluegrass instruments, the band melds blues, folks, bluegrass, jazz, and rock, and the members’ varying degrees of classical training lead them to invest heavily in group composition. Rev Peyton's Big Damn Band The young 3 piece from rural Indiana, makes up for its size deficiency with a high-energy sound steeped in classic Blues tradition. With just acoustic guitar, the occasional dobro, a minimal drum kit and the always reliable washboard, the trio concocts a rousing, hyper and authentic brand of Blues that sounds like what might come out of that secret meth lab nestled deep in the backwaters of the Mississippi delta.
