Midlake was formed in a small, quirky Texas town of Denton. They are five diligent musicians, who work to create a sound that was pleasing, as well as their own. Though often referred to as half of the duo Azure Ray and 1/4 of Saddle Creek's Now It's Overhead, Maria Taylor's talents have seen her name attached to an impressive roster of musicians. She's popped up on tracks by Crooked Fingers, Bright Eyes and Moby. Maria doesn't scream her angst or snarl out her problems. She doesn't warble melismas with the glut of high-strung chart divas. With understated grace and aplomb, she writes the sort of classic, sad songs once favored by the first ladies of American songwriting.

On Saturday, May 26th from 9 PM to 2 AM, Danger danger and Beauty Bar welcome Los Angeles music artist, The Gray Kid to San Diego. The Gray Kid is a one man, D.I.Y. music dynamo. The rapper/singer can move the crowd with his animated, Jeep-beat anthems, bringing comparisons to such luminaries as the Beastie Boys, Prince, Outkast, and Beck. With larger than life beats, clever witticisms, and soulful crooning, he has been busy with club performances from New York to LA, promoting his self-released album "5, 6, 7, 8," and getting praise in Entertainment Weekly, Billboard, Rolling Stone, URB, and LA Weekly. He also conquered You Tube with his overnight video sensation, "Paxilback," a hilarious parody to Justin Timberlake's ode to sexy that quickly acquired 650,000 views its first weekend, now nearing 2 million to date. It wasn't long before HBO came knocking to extend an invitation to perform at one of their events. That's pretty impressive for a guy without a record contract. Danger danger is held every 4th Saturday of the month at Beauty Bar. Resident DJ's Corey Biggs, Adam Salter, and Erick Diaz open up for The Gray Kid. Enjoy an hour of hosted Han Asian Vodka from 9:30 to 10:30 and get your photos taken by local photographers James Norton and Judah. Beauty Bar San Diego is located at the corner of El Cajon Blvd and Euclid. In a hip, beauty salon setting, enjoy cocktails, manicures, dancing, a photobooth, and an outdoor patio with a comfortable smoking area. The cover charge is $5 and is 21 and up.
