Who Will Be Crowned Master Storyteller at The Moth GrandSLAM...

Where: Comix

Date: 2007-12-02 19:00:00

Type:

The Moth believes that everyone has a story. The Moth created StorySLAM to give those stories a forum. Since 2001, the raucous, moving, funny and wild quilt of themed stories that emerge during each SLAM has kept the crowds coming back again and again. StorySLAM provides a stage and a microphone, a theme to inspire and shape the evening, a lively and supportive audience, and a host to guide the festivities. Stories are limited to five minutes, and 10 stories are heard. The stories are scored by three teams of audience-member judges, and a winner is announced at every SLAM. Then the SLAM winners face off in the Semi-annual Moth GrandSLAM. That time has come. Who will be crowned the next GrandSLAM Champion? Hosted by McSweeney’s humorist Dan Kennedy Tickets are $15 – for tickets, call Comix at 212-524-2500 or visit www.comixny.com

The Kills

Where: Webster Hall

Date: 2008-05-01 19:00:00

Type:

The Kills consist of VV and Hotel. These two have been making music since 2002 and doing a lot of home recordings where they live in the UK. With a serious knack for doing great raw recordings, narcotic and saccharine - the drums alone will pull you in. The strong female presence evokes comparison to Chrissie Hynde and Patti Smith, while the male vocals charm those that know the sounds of Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground.

Date: 2008-05-16 19:30:00

Graham Parker was one of the most successful singer/songwriters to emerge from England's pub-rock scene in the '70s. Drawing comparative inspiration from Van Morrison and the Rolling Stones, Parker added his own flavor of fused folk and rock 'n' roll, highlighted by his indignant passion, biting sarcasm and bristling anger. Just a bit more laid back these days, Parker is also a novelist. His recent album, 'Your Country,' was issued in March 2004.
