Seattle's first Timba band, Pedrito Vargas y su Grupo Ashé debut April 3rd at Nectar Lounge in Fremont. Hailing from Havana, Cuba, Pedrito Vargas is the former percussionist of Barbarito Torres. Torres is a veteran of the legendary Buena Vista Social Club and a 2004 Grammy nominee. Vargas is a complete percussionist that is at home with all styles of Cuban music. And his new band specializes is Timba music. Timba is contemporary Cuban dance music that combines the elements of traditional Cuban music (like Rumba, Son Montuno) with Funk, R&B and Hip Hop to create rhythmically explosive and infectious dance music.
