The Las Cruces Museum of Natural History presents Animal Encounters on Saturday, October 27th at 4:00 pm. Registration will open at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 20, for Summer Session art classes for children and adults at the Las Cruces Museum of Art, 491 N. Main St., downtown mall. For information, pick up registration forms at the Museum starting April 2, call 541-2160, or visit the website: http://museums.las-cruces.org. Classes for young artists will include a variety of experiences with drawing, painting, ceramics and mixed media. Morning and afternoon classes are scheduled in one-week increments beginning the week of June 4 8 and ending the week of July 30 Aug. 3. No classes will be held the week of July 2 6. Age groupings are 4-5, 6 8, and 9 12 year-olds. The Saturday Studio for Kids will continue throughout the summer every Saturday from 10 11:30 a.m. for children ages 5 12; $5 per child. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. The class is limited to 10 participants. Sessions for teens ages 13 15 include a 2-D Studio involving experiences with drawing, painting and printmaking, June 18 22, and ceramics, July 16 20. Classes are held from 1 2:30 p.m. daily. Classes for adults include ceramics (beginning to intermediate level) June 5 July 25; drawing and painting (all levels) June 5 July 24; and workshops in digital photography fundamentals (June 6, 13, 16, & 20) and creative photographic composition (July dates TBA). Photographer Al Weber, colleague and friend of Ansel Adams, will give a free lecture about his relationship with Adams and the current exhibit, Ansel Adams: The Man Who Captured the Earths Beauty, at the Las Cruces Museum of Art on Saturday, July 14 at 11 a.m. Seating will be provided. The Adams exhibit will run through Saturday, Aug 4. Weber, whose photography is included in the Museums companion exhibit, American Photography; West Coast Visions, worked with Adams instructing photographic workshops at Yosemite National Park and in Carmel, CA with the Friends of Photography. Nationally recognized as a landscape photographer and art educator, he currently teaches workshops at the Photographers Formulary in Montana. He comes to Las Cruces following the opening of an exhibition of his work in Reno, NV. Weber has also loaned several photographs from his personal collection, including his own works and photographs by Morley Baer, Pirkle Jones, Geraldine Sharpe and Hal Halberstadt for the exhibition. The Las Cruces Museum of Art is located at 501. N. Main St. in the downtown mall. Museum hours are 10 am 4 pm Monday through Friday and 9am 1 pm. Saturday. Exhibits are accessible and free of charge.
