The Branigan Cultural Center of Las Cruces will host an opening on Friday, May 4, for exhibits by the Las Cruces Arts Association and the New Mexico Watercolor Society, Southern Chapter. A reception for the artists will be held from 5 7 p.m. The exhibits will run through Saturday, May 26. The exhibits and reception are accessible and free of charge. The Las Cruces Arts Association, formerly known as the Las Cruces Arts and Crafts Association, has been exhibiting at the Branigan Cultural Center, and formerly the Branigan Library, since 1971. The 45th annual mixed-media art exhibit will feature works by more than 25 members. The New Mexico Watercolor Society, Southern Chapter, Spring Show includes the work of 39 artists. This is a judged exhibit, and ribbons will be presented for Best of Show, first through third places, and two honorable mentions. A Viewers Choice award will be selected during the opening reception. An exhibition of recent works created in Museum Studio Program art classes at the Las Cruces Museum of Art will be on display in the Main Gallery from Monday, Aug. 13 Saturday, Aug. 25, featuring the works of adults and children. Childrens works will also include selections from the Saturday Studio for Kids. Mediums include drawing, painting, mixed media and ceramics. Instructors whose students artwork will be included in the exhibit are Gerie Muchnikoff, Dorothy Zitzler, Jessie Sedore, Audra Noblet, and Corry McKissack. Registration information for Fall Session Studio Program art classes for adults and children will be available on Monday, Aug. 5 at the Museum or visit the website http://www.museums.las-cruces.org. Live animal program for children 3-10 years old, parents are encouraged to stay. The four-week program looks at toads, snakes, and lizards looking at their similarities and differences.
